Inviting Audi to join VW here

Wednesday, July 13, 2011

With Chattanoogans already producing fine Volkswagens at the company's new local plant, it is interesting news that Audi, a luxury brand in the VW family, is planning to build cars at an as-yet-unnamed North American location in the not-too-distant future.

Of course, Chattanooga is inviting Audi to build its new manufacturing facility here.

Our new VW plant is at the outstanding Enterprise South industrial park. There is plenty of room still available there that could accommodate facilities for the upscale Audis - and plenty of hard-working individuals in our region who would be happy to build the cars.

When Martin Winterkorn, Volkswagen AG's chief executive, was at the VW plant's grand opening, he said a decision concerning Audi production in North America could be made within a year.

Economic development officials in Chattanooga are not just waiting around for that decision.

"We've been working hard to build relationships with Audi and other members of the VW family of brands," J. Ed Marston, of the Chattanooga Area Chamber of Commerce, told the Times Free Press.

Chattanooga has put out the welcome mat for Audi. We can think of no better place for its vehicles to be built.
