CLEVELAND, Tenn. - David Keith Daugherty, charged with first-degree murder in the strangulation of his wife, will be held without bond until a Thursday hearing, a judge ruled this morning.

Daugherty appeared in Bradley County General Sessions Court court today. Friends found his wife Elizabeth's body at the couple's home on Tuesday.

Daugherty, arrested later in Swain County, N.C., told Judge Sheridan Randolph he could not afford an attorney, and he will be represented by the public defender's office.

A preliminary hearing was set for Thursday.

Until then Daugherty is being held at the Bradley County Jail without bond.
