Deputy shot dead in Clayton County
Authorities say a sheriff's deputy has been shot and killed in Clayton County, south of Atlanta.
Sheriff Kem Kimbrough told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution the shooting happened on or near Walker Road on Wednesday.
Authorities told WSB-TV the officer was assisting a fugitive squad in pulling over a suspect and serving a warrant. Authorities say the deputy was taken to Southern Regional Hospital, where he died.
Officials said at least 40 police officers were searching the area for the suspect, a 17-year-old boy.
WSB reported the deputy -- whose name hasn't been released -- is married with children, and has been in law enforcement for more than two decades.

Tuesday shooting victim identified
Investigators are trying to piece together the events leading up to the gunshots that wounded a Cleveland woman in her home Tuesday night, officials said.
Amanda Barnett, 25, was airlifted to Erlanger hospital after being shot in the chest and arm shortly before 6 p.m., according to police spokeswoman Officer Evie West.
West said Barnett and her husband, William Barnett II, were arguing before the shots were fired, but it's not clear which one pulled the trigger.
"Detectives are hearing different stories from the two of them," West said.
Barnett is in stable condition after surgery, according to West.
Engineer gets national honor
Sandra Knight, Bradley County engineer, has been awarded the American Society of Civil Engineers' Pegasus Award.
The award acknowledges an engineer's civic and humanitarian activities, education and engineering achievements, as well as professional and technical activities.
Knight, a 1986 graduate of the University of Tennessee at Knoxville, has been the county engineer since 1996. She is an active member of national, state and local organizations dealing with engineering, stormwater and economic development.
The county engineer's office is an agency under the county mayor's office.
County Mayor D. Gary Davis said Wednesday that Knight's "experience, knowledge and tremendous people skills" are critical in dealing with local builders and large corporations.
GREAT FALLS, Mont.
Driver sentenced in fatal crash
A 27-year-old Montana woman has been sentenced to a little more than three years in federal prison for a drunken driving crash that killed a Tennessee motorcyclist near Glacier National Park.
The U.S. attorney's office said Ronda Renee Bird, of Browning, was sentenced Monday for the July 2010 death of Fred Childress, of Oak Ridge, Tenn. Bird pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter in March.
Prosecutors alleged Bird had been drinking and was traveling 46 mph around a sharp curve when her pickup crossed the center line and struck the motorcycle.
