LAFAYETE, Ga. — A distribution center is moving to Walker County and will bring 30 to 40 direct and indirect jobs, Commissioner Bebe Heiskell announced today.
Findlay’s Tall Timbers Distribution Center will locate in the former Cardinal Equipment building in the Rock Spring industrial park, according to a news release.
“I am so excited to welcome this new business into Walker County,” Commissioner Heiskell said. “I believe this to be a sign that our local economy may finally be turning around.”
Findlay’s Tall Timbers Distribution Center operates in several states including Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana, New York, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania, the release stated.
The center provides fulfillment services for companies looking for assistance with support in areas such as warehousing, distribution, light assembly, fulfillment management, transportation, business park development, and foreign trade zone management.
Larry Brooks, county economic development director, said officials have been working with Findlay’s Tall Timbers Distribution Center for several months.
“Our due diligence has proven them to not only be a quality employer, but also a top notch corporate citizen, fully involved in the local communities in which they operate,” Brooks said in the release.
Charles Bills, president of Findlay’s Tall Timbers Distribution Center, said, “We are very excited to be locating in this emerging market in very close proximity of Chattanooga.”
Brooks noted that Walker County is competitive because its 100 percent freeport exemption means businesses don’t pay inventory taxes on raw or finished goods used in manufacturing as long as they are moved through the county within a year.
“This equates to huge savings for companies who have large inventories they are trying to manage,” Brooks said.
Heiskell credited state Sen. Jeff Mullis, R-Chickamauga, Keith Barclift of the Northwest Georgia Joint Development Authority and the Walker County Development Authority for helping bring the new company to the county.
