What’s that smell? Tips on combating pet odor in the home

American Kennel Club

Do you keep your dog and your home nice and clean, but have been noticing some bad pet odors recently? There are some places around your house where these odors are hiding that you might not even realize. The American Kennel Club (AKC.) reveals where these foul smells could be hidden and what you can do to get rid of them.

— Your pet’s bed. To keep pet odors from Fido’s bed, wash bed coverings and blankets weekly. It’ll be easier to get this done if you keep a spare set. Also, periodically move the bed and mop underneath it.

— The crate. Frequently sweep or vacuum the crate to keep smells from building up, and wash it out monthly.

— Pillows around the house. If your dog likes to lounge around on pillows, slip washable pillowcases on them so they can be easily removed for you to clean.

— Fido’s toy box. Wash or replace old toys occasionally. Also vacuum or wash the empty box. Make sure not to put toys back while they are damp.

— Your dog’s favorite hiding spots. Many dogs like to hide treats or food and sometimes forget about them. Check under furniture for Fido’s forgotten stash that might very well be causing odors.
