The Hamilton County school board has elected Mike Evatt as its chairman.
Evatt, who voted for himself, was backed by board members Rhonda Thurman, Everett Fairchild, David Testerman and Joe Galloway.
George Ricks, Jeffrey Wilson and Linda Mosley voted in favor of Wilson, who’s currently the board’s vice chairman, for the position.
Board member Chip Baker was not present.
In May, former Chairman Everett Fairchild announced his resignation for health reasons. Wilson has been serving as chairman in the weeks since.
The chairman sets the agenda and runs meetings, but the chairman’s votes carry no greater or less weight than other members.
