Chattanooga has surged into the lead in Outside Magazine’s online poll to name America’s “Best Town Ever.”
For the first time since voting began last week, Chattanooga has overtaken Tucson, Ariz.
As of 11:45 p.m. EDT Chattanooga had 2,278 votes compared to 2,217 for Tucson, a razor-thin margin that could change by the hour.
Editors of the popular magazine chose the Top 10 finalists in the contest and then turned the competiton over to voting on a dedicated Facebook page.
Chattanooga and Tucson have distanced themselves from the pack in recent days in the contest, which continues through June 28. Boulder, Co., stands in third position.

They obviously have never been on the sewer/river running through our lovely town or breathed the fresh clear clean air with the sewer smell. I kayak on the river and see the most disgusting pollution. I can't stand to put my feet in the water it is so nasty. The high cancer rates around here are nothing to be alarmed about either. Keep putting your head in the sewage and coal ash...great news.
If you hate it so bad, why don't you move?
I wonder if anyone has shot the bald eagle yet. It seems to be commonplace around here.
grandmastaj, what I hate are empty stupid responses to a reasonable post. Yours qualifies.
libertarian...is your nickname big R
It wont last long with Rhonda Thurman taking over hamilton county school systems
Big R Libertarian I hope you drink the clean water that comes from our lovely river and you gag on it. As for my boat it is made of wood and renewable. Cleanest city by whose standards?
Chattanooga Riverpark is a perfect place to eat as a family and a fishermen's paradise. But to swim the answer is no!! To rough and definitely has a lot of foliage in the water (can't see the bottom that makes it dangerous!). Get a swimming pool to swim!!!
i understand libertarian....wish you had a third options....republican have sold out the country...atleast the establishment-republicans have done so
Yes, there are signs at the boat ramps warning us to not eat the catfish from the river due to pollution, but really what do you expect from a waterway that has a bunch of coal plants and factories on it? And of course the giant ash spill is a fact.
ps. I shot the bald eagle. It tasted like chicken.
Cleanest city by whose standards? Well you need to visit this web site called Tennessee Gate. Warning Health Alert: Tennessee Gate; The Sordid truth about McKee Baking, WalMart, Toxic Dumping and the surrounding cities! Visit " http://tennesseegate.com ... Did you know the EPA has posted signs throughout Hamilton County saying CatFish have Mercury Poisoning?
The mercury came from JAPAN. Yeah that earthquake causes our pollution. HELLO TVA!!!
Is it a nice place to visit? Sure. As far as living here, the school system is a joke. I pay city and county taxes and don't have a decent elementary school to send my children to. That's why there are so many thriving private schools in our area.
Make up your mind Chattanooga. Are you a corrupt, gang infested, violence ridden, polluted, backwoods city or a scenic gem, nesseled between the mountains, with crystal clear waters, safe streets with a unique and colorful culture.
BTW - Chattanooga just made the evening news....for it's Meth problem.
