A 43-year-old man has been charged in connection with the death of a 70-year-old East Ridge woman, police say.

Randall Reed, also of East Ridge, was arrested Thursday after he was identified as the man using the woman's credit card at a local ATM machine, said Officer Erik Hopkins, spokesman for the East Ridge Police Department.

He was charged with theft under $500, Hopkins said.

On Wednesday, the body of Jane Stokes was found in her home on Hardin Drive. Her hands were bound and a plastic bag was over her head, police said.

The homicide investigation is still ongoing, Hopkins said, and investigators also have searched Reed's motel room and vehicle.

Reed is now in Hamilton County Jail and is scheduled to appear in East Ridge Municipal Court on Tuesday at 5 p.m.
