Area aces

Ed Shuey scored a hole-in-one at Black Creek Club last Wednesday. He aced No. 17 from 133 yards with an 8-iron while playing with former UTC coach Reed Sanderlin. He shot a 71, which beat his age by three shots.

Young Kayland Boling of Lenoir City sank her third hole-in-one during the TGA Junior Tour event Monday at Brainerd. Boling, who won the Girls 12-14 Masters division, made the 132-yard shot on No. 2 with a pitching wedge, as witnessed by Samantha Griffith.

Duo top 15 in Top 60

Lookout Mountain’s Mary Alice Murphy is tied for eighth place after the first of two rounds in the 30th annual Georgia Top 60 Women’s Classic at The Brickyard at Riverside in Macon, and Rocky Face’s Lisa Sellers is tied for 15th. Murphy, a GPS graduate about to begin her sophomore year at Mercer University, shot a 2-over-par 73 Tuesday, while Sellers carded a 77. University of South Carolina golfer Katie Burnett of Brunswick leads at 69.

Council Fire, Honors share 8th

The Council Fire team of Tad Holley, Bennett Taylor, Shaan Desai and Sam Gatlin and The Honors Course’s Henrik Simonsen, Michael Murphy and Jack Uselton tied for eighth in the Cleveland Golf Srixon Pro-Junior on Monday at Old Hickory Country Club. Each of those groups combined to shoot a 7-under 64. The Three Ridges team repeated as champions by winning at 15 under.

Creeks Bend women win

Jessica Cathey, Lexi Stewart, Carol Massey and Linda Carter from Creeks Bend won the A Division of the Chattanooga Women’s Amateur team competition Tuesday at Creeks Bend with a 69. Signal Mountain’s Deedee Raulston, Laurie Smickley, Rosalie Basten and Debbie Lambert won the B group with a 74, and Creeks Bend’s Debbie Adams, Margaret Wilson, Samantha McCaleb and Anne Carroll won the C with a 77.

Men’s Metro entries already top 100

More than 100 applications have been accepted for the 2011 Chattanooga Men’s Metro Championship to be played July 8-10 at Chattanooga Golf and Country Club. The field will be capped at 120 players and applications are available at www.IfYouLikeGolf.com

The Cleveland Invitational, also part of the Chattanooga TPC series, has posted its application at the same website. That tournament will be played Aug. 6-7 at Cleveland Golf and Country Club.
