Who golfs: UTC student Trent Whicker

Trent Whicker's girlfriend bought him a gift certificate to Eagle Bluff Golf Club.

"I have no idea what inspired her to get me that as a gift," he said. "I hadn't played golf since middle school."

But he's very glad she did.

The gift from Natasha Romanova inspired Whicker, 21, to pull his old clubs out of his closet in Harriman.

"I'm taking a couple summer classes and I have an internship, but I have a lot of free time this summer," he said while putting at Moccasin Bend. "So I play at least once a week. Sometimes she will come out and hit a few balls, too."

Whicker played golf at Roberstville Middle School but gave up the game for other interests, including rowing.

"I'm playing better now than back then, and maybe that's because I'm stronger," Whicker said. "I never broke 90 then. I have now, and I want to break 80 by the end of summer. That's my goal."

And all because of a gift.
