CLASS WARFARE

The middle class has been under assault by the republicans since 1980. Don't know how some of you missed it. It was in the all the newspapers. It would be helpful if republicans thought more about American today than the next election and the fat cats that fund their campaigns.

But they are so terrified of upsetting the Koch brothers and Grover Norquist that they are letting the debt continue to increase while threatening to let the federal government default.

The Democrats have agreed to spending cuts. They would like republicans to agree to NOT raise TAXES, but raise tax REVENUE by closing loopholes or reducing some tax deductions or tax credits. These include: Reducing tax deductions on incomes over $500 thousand a year.

Reducing corporate tax subsidies for oil/ethanol.

Closing tax loopholes for corporate jets.

That doesn't sound too draconian. While they are at it they could also raise the tax rate on hedge fund managers that are still at 15%. But republicans respond with an 'absolutely not!'

Let the little people sacrifice. Let the poor bear a larger percent of the burden. Let working families struggle to get by on wages that have been stagnant for 30 years. But please, PLEASE do not let the millionaires and billionaires be inconvenienced in the least. Their incomes have been soaring so let's not upset THAT apple cart. (and they are so generous in return!)

And all you working stiffs who are buying this GOP crap and support republican candidates have no one but yourselves to blame if you're cutting coupons to put food on the table or working a second or third job to keep a roof over your head.

Don't know why I bother. None are so blind as those that will not see. None so deaf as those who will not hear.

And none so stupid as those who vote republican.

Well said, blackwater. It should be obvious to all but the blindest and the stupidest that the Republican party has become a viper pit of boot-licking, self-interested, soul-less shills whose only goal is to make Obama look bad and to do everything in their power to regain control of the White House come next election. They have no interest whatsoever in doing what's best for the nation, only what's best for them. And that, in my book, is tantamount to treason. It kills me to hear all of the libertarians and teapartiers whine about the "evils" of Marxism and Socialism when they cannot even see the evils that the Republicans and the rich fat cats and big business are inflicting upon us on a daily basis. Amerika is a sinking ship and the greed of the few and the stupidity of the masses who lick their asses will be what brings us to our demise.

Will Obama give up golf to save the Republic? (Is golf a team sport?)

The party that abolished slavery has made plenty of blunders, to be sure--that's why we need the Tea Party and the libertarians and so on--but "It should be obvious to all but the blindest and the stupidest" that things have gotten worse, not better, since the Democrats won Congress and the White House this time. Harry Reid's Senate hasn't passed a budget in two years. The deficit is worse, joblessness is worse, prices are worse--right? Bush's deficits should've taught us that deficits don't help--right?

The government has made promises it can't afford to keep, and the Democrats are defending the problem against any pretense at solution, and trying to scare people.

Simplify the tax code--the Social Security bit is simple, simplify the rest--so people can produce wealth instead of paperwork. Simplify regulations. Cut to a minimal safety net (potato vouchers instead of food stamps, so to speak).

Ethan Harris, chief economist of Bank of America and Merrill Lynch, gave a talk last week on the state of the American economic outlook. He spoke of a very slow recovery. When asked what Washington should do, his answer was simple and direct. He said both sides were behaving poorly. He said we need to cut spending AND raise taxes.

To repeat, he said "And raise taxes...."

Remember the source. This was the chief economist from one of the world's biggest investment groups. I can't remember the last time I met a liberal financial advisor. When Merrill Lynch says we need to raise taxes, that does get my attention, because taxes won't line the pockets of these guys.

He noted both sides are playing politics on this issue and unless real efforts are made on both fronts, recovery will be even slower.

This is a great cartoon. These guys are supposed to be on the same team, working for the good of the American people. The whole debt ceiling debate is ludicrous. The congress has already approved every spending and appropriations bill. They already agreed to spend the money. Now they are threatening to not pay the bills. It is as if I were to tell my wife that she could go out and buy a new car, but then when the payments come due, threaten to not pay. That is not how people act when they have the well being of each other at heart.

The Republicans have worked against Obama since the day he was elected. Instead of working for the good of the American people, their goal has been to 'make Obama a one term president'. Their true desire is to see the economy continue to tank until next November, so that a Republican can win the White House. In my opinion, this is treason. It is also the worst thing that could happen. These are the same guys that got us into this mess. We sure don't need to put them back in charge.

It is time to start acting like adults, not play the 'I'll take my ball and go home' card.

Negotiating with crazy people is always a bad idea. Negotiating with hostage-takers is dangerous. But negotiating with crazy hostage-takers is dangerously bad. The “debt-ceiling” deal being negotiated to keep the economy from crashing could crash the economy anyway. Making draconian cuts on the elderly, poor and middle class could throw us into a real depression.

From Paying Off Debt To Massive Debt In Ten Years:

Ten years ago the government had surpluses and was on a path to paying off the entire debt. What changed? Ten years ago the Bush tax cuts passed. Republicans promised the tax cuts would create jobs and grow the economy. They were lying, we were conned. As a result, the economy had one of the slowest periods in our history, creating very few new jobs and causing stagnant wages, leading to huge personal debt. (But the rich got dramatically richer.) And those cuts, along with huge military increases, two wars (financed with borrowed money) all leading up to an economic crash caused by deregulation and criminal mismanagement, caused the country's debt to exploded. Taking office with a surplus of more than $250 billion, Bush left office with a $1.4 trillion budget deficit …for just his final budget year alone.

The White House is now negotiating with crazy hostage-takers. The very people who exploded the debt, people who have a vested interest in killing the economy (check Rep. Eric Cantors portfolio in the WSJ) so they can win the next election, and their proposals are meant to do just that. People are realizing that this whole enterprise of austerity, taking trillions out of the budget – and therefore out of the economy – is a very, very dangerous idea.

An overwhelming Majority want the same solutions that economists agree work better for more people. The public wants tax increases on the rich. Close corporate tax loopholes. They want direct job creation. They want a revival of American manufacturing. They want a national industrial/economic policy. They understand that growing the economy reduces the deficits. The Congressional Progressive Caucus' People’s Budget is the template for a job-creating deficit solution. It’s called The PEOPLE'S Budget Plan. You can read a PDF of the plan here: http://cpc.grijalva.house.gov/files/The_CPC_FY2012_Budget.pdf

The Republican austerity plan is about intentionally causing suffering, so a wealthy few benefit, and will do just as much harm as default. Instead, we need to invest in We the People with jobs and infrastructure that enable us to grow our way out of this mess.

MCCONNELL WASN'T LYING

In October of 2010, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell told the National Journal the "the single most important thing we want to achieve is for President Obama to be a one-term president."

He was telling you the truth, and it presented the republicans a political strategy that would seriously damage the President. They would be unified in their opposition.

Remember Obama campaigning about how there are no red states or blue states, just the United States of America? He promised to craft legislation both parties could agree with and support?

He did that. Consider the scores of republican congressman who have supported, at one time or another, an individual mandate for health care reform, cap-and-trade for carbon emissions, and tax cuts stimulative purposes.

When Obama crafted his health care reform bill he included the individual mandate. He naively believed republicans would support it. McConnell denounced it as a partisan bill.

When Obama crafted his energy policy he included cap-and-trade to control carbon emissions. He naively believed republicans would support it. McConnell denounced it as a partisan bill.

When Obama crafted his stimulus bill he included tax cuts for stimulative purposes. He naively believed republicans would support it. McConnell denounced it as a partisan bill.

To say that the Congress is deadlocked and Harry Reid has failed to pass any meaningful legislation is a true statement.

Not only have voters failed to see the big picture, the media has done no better.

Blaming Obama is a lie.

Any business knows you can't solve a revenue problem by only cutting costs. The Bush Tax cuts gave us 5 trillion in future debt. The wars gave us another 5 trillion and the recession gave us 5 trillion more. The tax cuts are on the revenue side of the balance sheet and the recession has a double whammy with both reduced revenue and higher expenses to keep people eating and living indoors.

The problem is many of the Republicans signed a deal with the devil and Grover Norquist has promised to attack them if they even think about doing the right thing. If you haven't run into Mr. Norquist yet, he was on the Colbert Report this week in all his messed up glory:

There is not a single conservative posting here (or Republican politician for that matter) that has an alternative idea for how to turn the economy around. NONE. Other than rants denigrating Obama, the very few times I’ve read any alternatives… they’re not alternatives at all. Always, they are a variation or another of supply side economics with the anchor being lower taxes. Question: “If supply side economics featuring lower taxes do not work, and I’ll make that assumption, what is your plan B for growing the economy?” Don’t just give me some pithy remark that allows you to dodge the question. Whatta ya got?

Reading most of the conservatives posting here defines, “Doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different outcome”. One has to conclude that overall, today’s conservatives are insane.

Supply side economics do not work. They have never worked. I only wonder how long it will take before Republicans and other conservatives begin to realize this - or if they even want to.

So the liberals are using corporate jets this time instead of yachts for their class warfare theme. Whether it is yachts or jets, the people who buy them do not make them. It is the business owners who employ the following trade workers in the fields of: Metal, plastic, fiberglass, carpet, rubber, painters, electric, computer, plumbing, and laborers who assemble all of the components in a jet (yacht). Also the jets (yachts) have to be serviced, food bought out, air traffic controllers have to direct planes, fuel has to be bought, and put in the jets (yachts). I’ll stop here but you get the drift. The majority of the above workers are the middle class. They get it. Now the citizens in this Country who have failed to get an education, got involved in drugs or other subcultures, or are just plain lazy, have two ways to go. Work hard to achieve the skills to obtain one of the above jobs or become a victim (human nature to take the path of least restraints) and blame everyone and anything else for their lot in life.

Also when people use the word “loopholes” it is really liberal speak for a lost of a right. The stupid and ignorant people like that word.

Now reading the above, who are going to vote republican and who are going to vote democratic? Oblamea and the rest of the liberals cannot win on their record, so they have to try and win on class warfare, jealousy, victim hood, and call the givers in the Country extremists. This worked in 1964 against Barry Goldwater but failed in 1980 with Ronald Reagan. Trickle down economics does work. Now I know that the liberals, (And Marxist Al) will only comment (cherry pick) the trickle down line on my post and totally disregard the rest of this post.

Yep...just like a pyramid scheme does.

"Now I know that the liberals, (And Marxist Al) will only comment (cherry pick) the trickle down line on my post and totally disregard the rest of this post."

And why would that be? Maybe because there are so few people who can afford yachts and jets, so those who build them and make supplies for them, if they depend on making a living from the sale of those two items, are in a world of hurt.

They can't live on those trickle down items, trust me. But I'll give you an "A" for the effort in trying to (cough) 'sail' that one over our heads.

True but how many jets have you bought in your lifetime? Putting money in the hands of the rich may help a few thousdand people in manufactoring but but makes the millions of other peons pay more for the wealthy's toys.

Wealthy people likely worked hard; studied longer and sacrificed and therefore should benefit, but we need to be fair. When the rich are getting richer and the poor/ middle class are not propsering equally, the only thing trickling down is urine.

limric, I agree with you and blackwater48. CLASS WARFARE is not the way to grow our way out of this long-term trend of the global economy's "race to the bottom" which the Capitalist have "lobbied" this Republic into.
With the destruction of our middle class, and not anybody paying the necessary taxes to fill the void of the lost manufacturing jobs, the Republicans and his opponents as SeaMonkey said... "and your darn right itguy....i wanted obama to fail from the start." These people have lost all reasoning and purpose as to the good of this Republic.
The Republicans idea of success is to have this Republic fall into another "great depression" while using this 2007 deep recession as an excuss to destroy the working class, knowing that Americans cannot compete with the workers in the lower monetary value countries, taking away all of their hard gained working conditions and benefits. They Republicans have not created any new manufacturing jobs here and apparently do not want any new jobs created until they get the working contitions back to where the Capitalist can dictate and have complete control over the workers.

The Republicans have lied to me because they said that they were fiscally conservative and then ran up the debt during the Bush years by 7 trillion dollars. Although I agree with most of the Republican talk it does not equal the walk.

The democrats just say basically, we like taxes, we like spending, and we will give the voters freebees to get elected. So my choice is between an obvious liar and an obvious idiot. MT John wrote: "Most conservatives have an idea about how to turn the economy around - TAX CUTS. Ronald Reagan tried it. We saw how well that worked."

Yes we did, and if you will look it up, it was accomplished by his administration spending $2.95 trillion more than what came in. In other words, deficit spending was born.

"George W. Bush tried it again and we saw how well that worked."

Before we get to GWB, lets talk about his daddy. His administration spent another $2.58 trillion, leaving the balance at a negative $5.53 trillion dollars.

Bill Clinton's administration left with a national debt balance of negative $5.54 trillion dollars. For all practical purposes, his last four budgets were balanced.

GWB added $4.40 trillion dollars to the debt while he was in office and another $7.75 billion that was added to the debt, signed and set in motion just before he left office. His administration spent a total of $5.175 trillion dollars.

And that does not include the cost of the two wars that are still ongoing in the Middle East and are still eating up tax dollars to the tune of a million dollars per day.

GWB is responsible for roughly $6.08 trillion in deficit spending. He holds the personal best record in deficit spending and probably will forever hold it too.

This is the end result of the Republican way of doing things and there is no way to refute it. Don't take my word for it. Look it up yourself.

"Insanity is doing things the way that you have always done them and expecting a different result."

Which is why it is long past time to not only repeal those tax cuts that the rich have enjoyed for thirty years, but to raise those taxes to the 50% rate that existed when this country had no deficits and was prosperous as can be.

That too you can look up to be a fact as well.

It is truly sad the brineshrimp, the L4F, the bobMKE, the BRP and others to numerous to mention are some of the millions whom the right-wing oil men, the Republican Party and hate filled legislators of the Southern racist legacy have convinced…along with the Tea Party, to hate everyone who doesn’t support billionaires and their causes. They do not understand it is they too who will be left behind.

Remember the words from the Statue of Liberty? ”Send me your tired, your poor, your tempest tossed…?” What ever happened to that? Well, Neo-conservatism is what happened to that. Reagan’s mantra was that “I’m from the government and I’m here to help.” was a statement of weakness and a danger to our Liberty. Well, it isn’t. Reagan said that Medicare would make us Socialists. It didn’t. Republicans chant with the fervor of Buddhists that cutting taxes in half but spending the same amount of money will make us prosperous. Except for 403 Americans who became billionaires - from paying almost no taxes. It didn’t. And nothing has helped unions, or the average working family…who are on their way to becoming a destitute people on what is already a bare existence on Social Safety nets.

It is time to throw away the lies and the utter stupidity of conservative policies, stop making war on the world and begin taking care of our own citizens. Yes, by God, we work hard and we deserve it!

Libertarians4Freedom you are dead wrong about changing the Republican party from the inside. The progressives/Rinos run it now and will always run it. They use conservatives by saying the right things and then doing something else. Name one conservative president since 1900. Reagan could have been but his deficits were out of this world too. I know, I know he had to defeat the Soviet Union by out-spending them, blah, blah, blah..

I know that a lot of Republicans have their heart in the right place and the Tea Party has done a good job of pointing out the problems but right now the Tea Party has been co-opted by the Republican leadership which is absolutely RINO. Just look at the local party in its support for corporate socialism in the Volkswagen deal.

The other thing that I think Republicans are dead wrong about is about tax cuts and support for LARGE corporations. Large corporations are basically run like the government and get welfare constantly that makes them even more dominant over small business.

I am not going to vote for the lessor of two evils. Who is more evil, Frankenstein or the Wolfman, Hitler or Stalin, Republicans or Democrats. They all are evil.

Reply to SeaMonkey:

It seems as if you are the person who is having a hard time convincing the voters of not seeing the true situation and the time line of what happened on George W.'s watch to cause the 2007 deep recession and the more than doubling of the National Debt in conjunction with the more than doubling of the accumulating trade deficit of trillions of dollars. $578 billions trade deficit is bad enough for one year but multiply that figure by 8 years and what do you get? Where did this "net" money disappear? alprova let Bush W. off a little too low on his total doubling of the National Debt, which lasted through September of of 2009. You seem to forget about the $700 billion dollars of unfunded money in September 2008, that was needed to prevent the collapse of the private fraudulent financial systems to "prevent a world wide great depression"? Now you try to make us believe everything was "hunky dory" before Bush W. left office and that those conditions would not continue to cause the problems that you claim was President Obama's fault for not doing what the Republicans wanted him to do? We don't have to prove anything to the voters but to give them the facts and point out the "untruths" being put out.

Libertarians4Freedom - I realize that it is a spending problem bu GE making 14 billion profit and paying no tax is crazy. My small business has to pay and there should be a minimum tax on people like GE. The problem here is that we just can't just cut spending. We also need to raise revenues. I say 4 dollars spending cut, one dollar taxes. We don't have time to mess around. If you want to create jobs, get the deficit down to the point that the government is not eating up all the money in borrowing. Lowering the deficit helps small business, which provide 70% of the jobs, have access to capital. Now we bailed out the big banks and they want loan money. It can't be the same old mantra.

By the way, corporate wellfare is a tax on the rest of us. It means that we have to pay more to support huge businesses with lots of money.

As far as VW goes, how can anyone who calls himself a conservative support the government picking the winners and losers? That is sort of like Hitler's economy.

Businesses should not be taxed at all. As long as we have an income based tax system, the taxation should happen when the income is distributed as dividends to the share holders, in your case, maybe when you distribute money to yourself from your business.

Better yet, go to the FairTax and tax everything at the retail sales level. It would be such a simple, wonderful world.

So, what comes first? Do you need a severe brain damage first and then become conservative, or are you first conservative and as a consequence your brain starts to fall apart..

At least for some of my students the answer was clear. They got home-schooled and could not recover from severe damage. I think homeschooling kids is a severe form of child abuse that is not prosecuted in the south...

Seamonkey,

lets try to argue rationally, although you seem to be allergic or resistant against that. In most parts of Europe homeschooling is forbidden for several reasons. First, we educate teachers to do this job, they go through 5 year University to get specialized in certain subjects. Parents can never have this knowledge to educate the kids properly. The kids would never reach the level to pass the final exams of highschool which are on a much much higher level than american highschools.

Let me give you a taste of how big the difference is. In Germany I teach 3-rd semester students the same level as I did in Alabama in my 3-rd semester GRADUATE course. This of course is only possible with a thorough public school-education with teachers who are paid accordingly.

Second, homeschooling is forbidden, for not letting the parents brainwash their kids. Kids should be exposed to several opinions those of different teachers and those of the parents at home. Then they can adjust their views, something you oppose of course, since kids might see the narrowmindedness in your middle-age viewpoints...

... I can assure you I stay in Europe... 5 years with idiots like you is all I can bear...

BRP - that's a funny question. In spite of the fact that you use words to the contrary, what you and most conservatives advocate is freedom for the wealthy to enslave the masses. Our country has been trending that way since the election of Ronald Reagan. Frank Lunz has done a masterful job of crafting a message that blames the liberals for the consequences of the greed that has trashed our economy and the bubble chamber has made a fortune playing the broken record. Assuming that you are not one of the wealthy who have been enslaving the rest of us, you have been enslaved and have no understanding of who it was that enshackled you.

dude, I did not say that Bush was the best man for the job. I will specifically say that Obama is the worst possible man for the job, he is so bad that even Bush in a third term would be better.

If you believe the housing collapse was the main motor for the problem then you have to admit that Bush did not create the problem. He did recognize it though, even when Frank and Dodds didn't. His biggest failure was not dealing with it aggressively. I think he was either afraid of upsetting the apple cart on his watch or he was just too distracted with his nation building projects.

Obama has demonstrated that he does not understand what created the problem and he continues to push the same kinds of policies that created the mess. We still have something like 20% of the mortgages upside down. The market still needs to correct downward about 15% and Obama is preventing that from happening. Until it does, that part of the problem cannot correct itself.

I say “that part” of the problem because we now have a whole new problem to deal with that Obama absolutely owns, the doubling of the national debt on his watch.

Also, the US might not be as good as we should be in education, but we far out-performed Germany or anywhere else in INNOVATION the last 50 years. Most major technical advances came from the United States. Your students might be good "libraries" and can regurgitate info, but your education system is too regimented to foster creativity. A question or two, Austrian...

How long has homeschooling been outlawed in your country?
Has it been long enough for the parents of today's school-age kids to have gone through the public, government-controlled schools system?
Finally, if so, then why are those same parents so ill-educated, so ill-equipped, so outright stupid as to be unable to teach their own children what they have learned...if nothing else, at least in those subjects that are essentially unchanging or slowly changing?

Just wondering how yesteryear's wonderfully educated children are today's ill-equipped, doltish parents? I don't recall much in the order of cutting-edge technology coming out of Austria in the last 20-30 years or so...but frankly, I don't follow that anyway.

I do know that our R&D has gone down the tubes since the Dept of Ed was invented and got its grubby hands on our kids.

You "had" several students?

People homeschool for different reasons. It sounds like you were exposed to students who might have been pulled to get them out of the social/moral cesspool that can be some public schools.

Many students are pulled from public schools so they can get the education they deserve. The quality of education they get depends on their parent/instructors and you are in no position to be making generalized statements about the quality in this regard. On average, the homeschooled student absolutely does better than the public school student in the US. If the bar for graduation was set the same as German primary school requirements I have no doubt that the majority of homeschoolers would meet that target. Many of the homeschool programs that parents acquire to use for their kids are specifically designed around the local standards. If the standards were higher the programs would respond accordingly.

As far as your “limited view of the world” concern goes, not everyone is bound by the contemporary notion that it is of utmost importance to have a great understanding of the world. Let’s first concentrate on who we are and our own traditions. When I was younger the world seemed a more compartmentalized and the differences were greater as you went from place to place. The differences are what make travel worthwhile. Either I am less sensitive to the differences or the world is definitely more homogeneous these days and getting more so all of the time. I don’t see that as progress. I see it as a tremendous cultural loss. I remember my disappointment when I came across a McDonalds in Wiesbaden! That was over 15 years ago. I wonder what I will find when I visit later this month.

July 1, 2011 at 2:54 p.m.

Timbo,

I totally disagree with you. The american school system is the "learning by heart". Here the kids have to think on their own write tonns of essays, and solve problems, which they did not see in a similar form before. The education is more towards independence.

I am not saying the US has not good schools and colleges. Of course the top universities are great, and there are also good schools, but the vast majority is crap.

To your missing comedians, I just can say, I am austrian and we have lots of good comedians. There are some in germany, but unfortunately no George Carlin, or Jon Stewart... I will not argue about some missing humor with you...

Rolando, sorry but being 25 years out of school hinders the one or the other to give the kids an appropriate education. And, for example the level of math courses is so much higher that the anyway dump southern parents would not be able to solve the problems themselves, just like other people who are out of school for many years and who had already hard times with Math and Physics anyway...

"...being 25 years out of school hinders ..."

Sorry right back at cha, Austrian, but I must disagree with that one, even though I was not formally home schooled.

Chemistry has changed since my heyday, but to my knowledge, Math certainly hasn't. Calculators/laptops have taken the place of slide rules and whatsis tables but getting there is just the same -- it's merely faster and easier...and more accurate.

Math and Physics were a breeze for me, including all the higher math available in high school. My father, an eighth grade grad, helped me up to 2nd year Algebra. I helped my kids through their high school Chemistry.

There are only eight planets now instead of nine, but I doubt homeschoolers are going to learn astrophysics at home...unless Hawking has a kid. Or nuclear science. Or any other college courses in the hard sciences...that is not the purpose of home schooling. As has been pointed out, we do this to get our kids away from our essentially LibProg teachers who spend hours expounding their favorite uber-liberal pablum as well as the equally incompetent government meddlers. It also gives them a first-class education any number of jumps ahead of their bonehead English jock contemporaries.

My parents were bi-lingual...as an unintended consequence and self-interest, so am I -- kind of. I learned to speak Mexican growing up on the streets of Los Angeles...true, it is not pure Castillian Spanish.

There is no substitute for parental guidance -- and that takes time...time schoolteachers just don't have. I cannot picture some teacher unbending long enough to become interested in a child not his own...for starters, it would be against their union/government rules, and secondly, it would drive the teacher into apoplexy trying to "straighten the kid out" to the left-way of non-thinking.

College has become so rotten, America is no longer able to compete, I will admit that...and blame our government for sticking its nose into our business and ruining our kids.

We are taking the responsibility to educate our children back with a will. You better start preparing...

President Obama was making a contrast to the similarities of politics in Europe and in the U.S. Senate. He stated that "There's a lot of — I don't know what the term is in Austrian — wheeling and dealing — and, you know, people are pursuing their interests, and everybody has their own particular issues and their own particular politics."

He used the word "Austrian," clearly a mistake, but had he dropped the "n" off of it, no one would have a thing to say about it. He goofed. He may actually not have known any better. How many people in here could have said with any certainty what languages are spoken in Austria or any other country for that matter? How many languages are spoken in Austria? So what if he didn't know any better?

The people of Austria mainly speak German, but they also speak Turkish, Serbian, Croatian and a few other languages.

There are approximately 2,200 unique languages around the globe. How many can any of you hecklers name off the top of your head?

I've got news for you. The only thing homeschooling is achieving is to raise a group kids into adulthood who will have a clue how to interact with peers. You know all about that, don't you? Sure you do.

Everyone has seen the result of parents who coddle their children too much. Multiply that by a factor of 10 when they almost never leave their homes.

I've got a niece who is home schooling her own two children. Neither of them went to college. The tots are as smart as can be, so far, but not very bright in other ways. They are already showing signs of arrogance that is beyond measure. They were raised to not believe in Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny, etc. and they love nothing better than to argue those points with other kids in Sunday School class. One of them already received a black eye when he went too far.

Now that you have entered into this issue the way that you have, it's easy to understand why it is that you are the way you are. You're rarely right about anything and you never acknowledge it, no matter how overwhelming the evidence is that proves your ignorance.

In summary what I like about Obama is not a damn thing. In my opinion he is an egotistical economic idiot. So far I view his potential opponents the same way. Neither party is willing to drastically reduce spending and tax as necessary to balance the budget and reduce the debt. Many economist say both with the resulting pain are necessary to avoid a future disaster. I agree with them and apparently you don't. I am convinced the complex tax system with thousands of pages of exceptions favoring the wealthy and lower incomes at the expense of the dwindling middle class must be revised with higher levels added for those with higher incomes and the earned income welfare changed to a legitimate welfare system.

Obama's philosophy of "tax as needed so others can receive according to need" reminds me of Lenin's philosophy and popularity, then along came Stalin. I trust we have a system that will prevent his being successful and that will prevent us having our own Stalin.

Why other than possible reduced voter popularity does Obama keep refusing to follow the advise of his own personally selected economic advisers?

Do you really believe the lies are single sourced? I agree the right is a source and Dick Morris is an involved operative. But, the left is just as active and possibly have even better capability of disseminating misleading and false information.

wwwtw,

Thanks. The article is the best description of how we have evolved to a limited number of power brokers with their only agenda being to retain or increase their power. The writer offers solutions based on experience although congress would never adopt them. At some point the current system will implode and possibly enough people will quit buying the party line and insist on a meaningful fix.

Do you think he cares what your opinion about him is? You're just another of the closet racists in this country who have had no regard for him since before the election.

"So far I view his potential opponents the same way. Neither party is willing to drastically reduce spending and tax as necessary to balance the budget and reduce the debt."

I wouldn't say that. The Democrats are very willing to tax the rich and bring a halt to all the wars. The Republicans on the other hand want only to deny the ill, the infirmed, and the poor, assistance as needed. They have no desire to end the wars, costing this nation $1 million plus per day. And don't anyone DARE suggest upping the top tax rates.

"Many economist say both with the resulting pain are necessary to avoid a future disaster. I agree with them and apparently you don't."

Let the boots his American soil FIRST, and then lets talk about pain for the rest.

"I am convinced the complex tax system with thousands of pages of exceptions favoring the wealthy and lower incomes at the expense of the dwindling middle class must be revised with higher levels added for those with higher incomes and the earned income welfare changed to a legitimate welfare system."

I shudder to think what you consider a "legitimate" welfare system for the poor in this country. And you want to tax someone who makes less than $25,000 a year? Like I've said before. You're as big a kook as the Pauls are and none of you will ever make the decisions in this country, and thank God for that.

"Obama's philosophy of "tax as needed so others can receive according to need" reminds me of Lenin's philosophy and popularity, then along came Stalin. I trust we have a system that will prevent his being successful and that will prevent us having our own Stalin."

You typed this as if it has not been the policy for many years in this country. Who cares what you think? Don't make any money above a certain amount if its that big a deal to you and you don't want to "contribute to the cause." I think that's clear enough.

"Why other than possible reduced voter popularity does Obama keep refusing to follow the advise of his own personally selected economic advisers?"

And what SPECIFIC advise would that be and where can it be read from a credible source? I'll be happy to address it when I know just what your generalized remark is in regard to.

Alprova,

You may be the dumbest glorified book keeper I have ever encountered. I didn't say tax those under any amount more I said call welfare welfare and quit hiding it as earned income credit and add to the higher brackets. I frankly don't give damn how much democrats give away or add to the welfare programs as long as they call it welfare and quit pretending money grows on trees and there is an endless supply. If you really knew your ass from straight up you would realize we can default if the value of the dollar keeps tanking and our debt keeps increasing. I think Obama ask Simpson to chair a committee of several others to advise him which they did. Thus far he has ignored their reco's. Talk about being glad anyone is not in a position to make decisions I am real glad you have about as much pull as a greasy string in a cat's rear. I will say it again, neither party is willing to act in the best interest of this country, they are both too compromised by special interest. You have never seen any thing I said suggest the elderly, the infirmed and children not be provided for while in many cases they are not while many and I mean many healthy and capable are gaming the system, not working when they could. The government is too big, cumbersome and inefficient to be effectively manage a nation wide welfare system. Please don't respond you will just piss me off more.

If there would be "Fair Pay" there should be "Fair Tax" ...

I guess not even the dumbest of all conservatives might argue the first to hold....
