Hamilton County affirms its Volkswagen commitment to IB schools program

Wednesday, March 2, 2011

Hamilton County Commissioners passed a resolution "acknowledging Hamilton County's obligation to assist in the implementation of an International Baccalaureate Program within the Hamilton County School System."

The agreement was required by the county's Memorandum of Understanding with Volkswagen and is meant to help students of German employees stay on level with their peers in their native country.

Mayor Jim Coppinger said the program won't cost anything additional and said VW asked for the resolution so the county would have a timeline for establishing the program.

"We already agreed to the MOU that we would put this program forth," Coppinger said. "They want a letter of intent to know what the timeline is gonna be. It's not going to be be any additional cost to us. The program takes about three years to put in place."

The IB program is already in place at Signal Mountain High School.
