Handful of nonprofits present requests to City Council

Thursday, March 3, 2011

Three nonprofit agencies tonight begged the Chattanooga City Council for more money in order to stay relevant within the community.

Allied Arts, Alexian Brothers Senior Neighbors and the Urban League all presented requests. Allied Arts asked for $191,000 in the 2011-2012 city budget, Alexian Brothers' Senior Neighbors pleaded for $24,000 and the Urban League requested $50,000.

All three agencies said the city has cut their budgets over the last year.

The council plans to continue meeting with nonprofit agencies and quasi-governmental agencies over the next month as it puts together the budget for the fiscal year that begins July 1.
