A Chattanooga man working for a new trial in his 1994 murder conviction questioned his former attorney Friday in the seventh day of his hearing.
Edward T. Kendrick III is alleging he received ineffective legal counsel from both his trial attorney, Hank Hill, and the attorney on his appeal, Jerry Summers.
Friday morning, Kendrick asked Summers to review challenges he made after the first trial.
Summers said the prosecution’s last-minute witness caught Hill off guard and seriously affected Kendrick’s defense.
A jury convicted Kendrick of shooting his wife, Lisa Kendrick, with a Remington 7400 .30-06 rifle.
Kendrick has maintained that the weapon “went off” and he never intended to kill his wife.
Hours after her death in 1994, Chattanooga police officer Steve Miller shot himself in the foot with the rifle while moving it from his car to storage. He said at the time that his hands were not near the trigger.
The hearing will resume at 1:30 p.m Tuesday in Hamilton County Criminal Court.

Remington rifles are safe as the owner is. Never load a round into the chamber untill you are ready to shoot. Period. The documentary film about Remington rifles was about a boy that was killed when his mom was on her horse, with the loaded rifle going off. Guns can fire when loaded, that is the fact most people neglect to consider. Companies engaged in the manufacter of guns have made great strides in saftey by blocking the firing pin from the bullet by way of a transfer bar. Please, point your weapon in a safe direction, and treat any weapon as if it was loaded.
This is probably one of the worst written articles I have ever read. Can the author not maintain a fluid flow of the story? You missed the potential of this story.
Like I said Before they are grasping at every and anything possible Kendrick will commit perjury, lay needless heart ache on those still living, he is obviously short tempered, and he is selfish, and is making a FOOL out of himself.
How dare you to do this to your own kids and your X wifes family. Do you not have any morals, obviously not, because if you did you would stop hurting your self and your still living family members.
Next case, justice has been served, your guilty as charged Kendrick, your family name ruined, your family brought to disgrace and misery brought upon by you to your own blood.
You know what I feel for victims still living mom and dad, I think there name was lisa I do not know, have you ever wrote the victims still living parents and grieved at how sorry you were? That is what I am wondering,if you didn't that would show you as heartless as you already seem to be. But either way, it wont bring the person you shot back.
KEEP THIS KILLER IN PRISON WHERE HE BELONGS.

No he has never wrote to the family. Lisa's mother my grandmother is alive and well. She sits in that courtroom every time with the tears in her eyes. She still feels the pain as if it just happen. And the children are the same. Every time we see him walk in the courtroom with that smile on his face and the "sway" walk that he has come makes me want to throw up.
