ASU women roll into final

Top-seeded Appalachian State crushed No. 4 Elon in the second half today at McKenzie Arena, earning a 72-48 win and a spot in the final of the Southern Conference women's basketball tournament.

Ashlen Dewart scored 19 points, Courtney Freeman added 17 and Kelsey Sharkey finished with 12 points, 16 rebounds and seven assists.

The Mountaineers led 29-27 at the end of the tight first half, but Elon had no answers for the ASU attack in the final 20 minutes. Five Mountaineers scored in double figures and they shot 46.3 percent from the field in the second half, nearly 20 percent better than Elon.

ASU will face either Elon or the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga in Monday's 4 p.m. title game.
