Police seek suspect in College Hill shooting

The victim of a shooting at College Hill Courts today was attacked with a 16-gauge sawed-off shotgun, Chattanooga police said.

Darrell Paris, 22, was shot in the stomach inside an apartment at 1329 Cypress Street Court around 1:30 p.m., police spokeswoman Rebecca Royval said in a news release.

The suspect, a black male wearing blue jeans and a hooded purple sweatshirt, ran away headed west and is at large, Royval said.

Shameka Hudgins, who lives next door, said she rushed to help the victim when he called to her for through his screen door.

“I called 911, and they told me to go in put pressure on his wounds. When I tried to put pressure on it, his intestines came out,” Hudgins said.

Paris is being treated at Erlanger hospital and is expected to survive, Royval said.

Police said they don’t know the motive for the shooting.
