Voters in Catoosa County have approved a renewal of the county's 1-cent sales tax for education.

The so-called ESPLOST - education special purpose local option sales tax - received 1,364 votes for the measure to 185 against. Georgia law requires the ballot item to receive 50 percent plus one vote to pass.

Voters in Catoosa, Murray and Walker counties were all deciding tonight to renew ESPLOSTS, which are worth tens of millions of dollars for school systems over a five year period.
