Cleveland firefighters rescue man in wheelchair

CLEVELAND, Tenn. — Firefighters worked their way through dense smoke Thursday night to find and rescue a man in a wheelchair.

Members of the Cleveland Fire Department carried the man to safety as his Windsor Court home in north Cleveland was being consumed by fire, officials said.

Two other family members were able to get out of the home on their own.

“He was in the second room they searched, and he was kind of slumped over,” Chief Chuck Atchley said today of the victim. “He was in his wheelchair, and they realized he was in a bad way.”

The man’s condition was not released.
