Dalton: Police arrest three women in connection with armed robbery

Dalton Police arrested two more women Monday as part of an investigation into an armed robbery earlier this month, that had already put one woman behind bars.

Officers arrested 24-year-old Casey Renee Cantrell, of Tunnel Hill, and Tiffany Michelle Whitton, of Dalton, on warrants related to a March 7 armed robbery at a Dalton residence.

Investigators also arrested 43-year-old Tracy Chambers, of Dalton, last week on charges related to the case.

"I'd say it's unusual to have three females involved with an armed robbery, but it's not unprecedented," said Bruce Frazier, a spokesman for the police department.

On March 7, officers responded to a burglary and armed robbery call. When they arrived at the scene on Avenue F, the victim said they were sitting at home when there was a knock at the door and two female voices, one of which they recognized. When the resident refused to open the door, someone began kicking at the door.

The victim ran to hide in the bathroom and called 911. When police were called, the suspects left, taking the victim's purse from the couch, according to a release from the police department.

During the investigation, police talked with Whitton, who said the victim stole $60 from her earlier in the evening and that she'd gone to the victim's house with the other suspects in order to get her money back. Investigators said the believe the money may not have been stolen, but could have been part of a drug deal for pills which weren't delivered.

Chambers was charged with armed robbery, burglary and making false statements. Whitton was charged with robbery, burglary, possession and use of drug-related objects and giving false information to police. Cantrell was charged with robbery, burglary, theft by taking, larceny, pick-pocketing and misdemeanor possession of a barbiturate.

There is also an outstanding warrant for another suspect Matthew Stone for charges of burglary and armed robbery. Police are asking anyone with information about Stone to call Detective Ricky Long with the Dalton Police Department at 706-278-9085, extension 168.
