River Gallery artists explore the complexity of form in April exhibit

Kim Kauffman's photo collages and Jan Kransberger's glass sculptures can be seen at River Gallery during April. In their show, "Form," Kauffman draws inspiration from nature, while Kransberger focuses on the human figure.

Kauffman, a resident of Michigan, will display photo collages from her Florilegium Series. These botanically inspired images illustrate her love of plants, flowers, leaves, branches and seedpods.

"My intent is not to accurately represent my botanical subjects but to share my experience of an essential connection I feel in a garden," she says in her artist's statement.

Kransberger is from North Carolina and uses glass as her medium to examine the subtlety of the human form. Her highly stylized figures often incorporate sterling silver and copper because of the unpredictable colors they produce.

"I am most interested in creating harmony within my pieces," Kransberger says in her statement accompanying the show. "I like the tactile qualities of glass and the way light comes off the surface more than the traditional beauty of the material, its glossy smooth surface and its light-transmitting capacity."

"Form" will remain on display through April 30. A reception will be held Friday from 6:30 to 8 p.m., and Kransberger will be present to discuss her work.

River Gallery, corner of Bluff View and High streets, is open 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Saturday, 1-5 p.m. Sunday and by appointment. Call 265-5033.
