Tree hits car, knocks out power

A motorist escaped injury Saturday when a tree fell on his car on Prigmore Road in East Ridge, but the tree ripped down a power line and left people in the dark, according to a police news release.

East Ridge police spokesman Erik Hopkins said homes on several blocks lost power.

Lightning blamed for house fire

The roof and attic of an East Ridge house were damaged heavily Saturday morning after lightning hit the house, East Ridge police spokesman Erik Hopkins said in a news release.

Firefighters responded to the Missionare Avenue blaze about 7 a.m. and put out the fire before it spread. The residents escaped. Damage is estimated at $75,000.

Middle Valley business burns

Neighbors reported a fire at Dakota's Cabinet Shop in the 7900 block of Middle Valley Road at 9:35 p.m. Friday, Hamilton County Emergency Services spokeswoman Amy Maxwell said in a news release.

Firefighters from Dallas Bay, Sale Creek, Soddy-Daisy, Sequoyah and Red Bank helped bring the blaze under control.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, Maxwell said.
