A representative for "American Idol" contestant Lauren Alaina Suddeth appeared before the Chattanooga City Council today and said the young singer will throw a benefit concert for storm victims on May 14 in town.

"She has a big heart and she's torn up about the news," said Karen Alayne, vocal coach for Suddeth.

Alayne said there will be a parade to start the event and the concert is tentatively scheduled for Coolidge Park. The top three contestants in "American Idol" are given chances to have homecoming events, Alayne said.

But this one is different because Suddeth wants to make sure she helps out her hometown as well.

The council will be voting to waive permit fees tonight for Walnut Street Bridge and Coolidge Park for the event.
