A 37-year-old Bradley County man has been arrested in connection with the theft of tools from his neighbor's storm-ruined home.

Scott Charles Carey has been charged with aggravated burglary, according to Bob Gault, spokesman for the Bradley County Sheriff's Office.

Carey's arraignment was held in General Sessions Court this morning and he has been released on his own recognizance pending future court hearings, Gault said.

This is the seventh arrest that Bradley deputies have made in connection with theft from homes damaged in last week's tornado, he said.

Just after midnight today, a 911 call alerted deputies to a possible burglary at 3450 Williamsburg Road, Gault said. Deputies who responded found Carey crouching behind some bushes, he said.

Carey, who lives at 3459 Williamsburg Road, had a plastic tote containing a number of tools that property owner Carl Schlageter identified as his, Gault said.

Residents are encouraged to report suspicious activity by calling 911, Gault said.
