Head-on crash in Menlo kills 3

A 6-year-old Menlo, Ga., girl died along with her grandmother and another woman in a head-on car crash Saturday afternoon on state Highway 48, according to the Georgia State Patrol.

GSP Lt. Paul Cosper said Vickey Wooten, 59, of Cloudland, Ga., crossed the center line near mile marker 4 and hit a car driven by Jimmie Burrage, 45, of Menlo.

Wooten and Burrage died in the crash along with Burrage's granddaughter, Alyssa Freeman. Burrage's grandson, Skyler Freeman, 8, was seriously injured and was taken to Erlanger hospital in Chattanooga, Cosper said.

2 teens injured in party shooting

Two teens were hospitalized and one is in critical condition after they were shot in the legs at a party early Saturday morning.

The 17- and 13-year-old males were injured when the juvenile shooting suspect got in a fight with another juvenile, pulled a gun and shot into a crowd at a 613 Tunnel Blvd. party around 1 a.m., according to Chattanooga Police Sgt. Jerri Weary.

The boy in critical condition was hit in the femoral artery and was taken in for emergency surgery. The other boy was struck in the lower leg and has been treated and released.

Police plan to charge the suspect with two counts of attempted first-degree murder, two counts of aggravated assault and reckless endangerment.

Motorcycle crash kills state trooper

A Tennessee Highway Patrol trooper was killed in a motorcycle crash Saturday in Smyrna, Tenn., according to a THP news release.

Trooper Andy Wall, 36, died at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. He worked primarily out of Dickson County.
