Chattanooga council approves horse permit, billboard settlement

Tuesday, May 10, 2011

The Chattanooga City Council approved tonight a special permit that would allow horses within the city and narrowly approved a settlement to allow a billboard company to enlarge its sign on East Brainerd Road.

The new special exceptions permit for horses would now allow horse owners to house equines within the city as long as they meet special requirements.

The requirements include provisions that the barn, feeding areas and where the horses defecate be a certain amount of feet from residential areas.

The council approved 5-4 to reach a settlement with Fairway Outdoor Advertising to allow them to put a larger sign on East Brainerd Road. The settlement states the company will not be allowed to build any other large signs within city limits.
