UTC has submitted a bid to be a host site for one of the 16 NCAA softball regionals.

Senior associate athletic director Laura Herron said the school hoped the NCAA would consider placing a regional in Chattanooga with the Lady Mocs’ strong showing in 2011 and the outstanding facilities at Warner Park.

“Frost Stadium is a wonder facility to host any tournament,” she said. “We’ve been hesitant to put in a bid in past years because it’s a pretty high guarantee that we have to meet if we don’t sell enough tickets. But we felt like we have such a strong team this year, and we feel like we have such a great product.

“We think we’d have a great weekend turnout, and it’s worth it to us to play at home in such a great stadium.”

Herron said she wasn’t sure when UTC would be notified if its bid had been accepted. All regional sites and tournament matchups will be announced in the selection show tonight at 10 on ESPNU.
