UGA loses Harmon

Georgia offensive tackle A.J. Harmon will transfer to another school for personal reasons, Bulldogs coach Mark Richt announced Tuesday.

The 6-foot-5, 340-pound redshirt junior from Louisville, Ga., worked some at first-team tackle this spring following Trinton Sturdivant's season-ending knee injury and finished as a backup tackle to Cordy Glenn on the left side and Justin Anderson on the right side. Harmon arrived in Athens as a Parade All-American and as Rivals.com's No. 2 guard prospect in the '08 signing class.

Harmon said last month that Sturdivant's injury provided the opening he needed, though he regretted it had to happen like that.

"I feel like a lot of people have forgotten about me," Harmon said. "I'll read the blogs, and some of them are like, 'Whatever happened to A.J. Harmon? He was supposed to be all-world, and he's a big bust.'

"Now all I've got to say about that is that we'll see what happens when the season starts."

Harmon played in seven career games for the Bulldogs, and Georgia won all seven by 24 points or more. He was academically ineligible for last season's Liberty Bowl and becomes the second Bulldogs player this month to transfer, joining tailback Washaun Ealey.

Richt spoke Tuesday night in Gainesville, Ga., and told reporters before the event that he expected everybody else to be ready for preseason camp.
