Who golfs: Chuck Clark of Birchwood

Chuck Clark pulled his golf clubs out of a 14-year retirement about three years ago.

After taking a new job, he found that he could play golf with customers while on the clock and conduct some business.

But his wife, Lauri, looked at the old set.

'"Um ... no,' she told me," Clark said. "'You're not going out there with customers and using those clubs.'

"So we went to Dick's and we both bought a set of clubs, and she started playing for the first time. And if she gets any better, I'm in trouble."

Clark's best score in the industrial golf league at Brainerd Golf Course is 42 for nine holes - not bad for a guy who plays on occasion after a 14-year hiatus from the game.

"We played for six years. Then I had to take a long span off because my time and the position I worked didn't allow for time to play," Clark said. "I got the itch every now and then. It's kind of like the hankering for a good steak."
