A Bradley County Sheriff's deputy was injured when he ran his patrol car into a runaway cow early this morning.

As deputy Doug Boucher was searching for a cow that had escaped from her pen on Springplace Road, the cow leaped from the woods and ran in front of his patrol car, said sheriff's spokesman Bob Gault.

Boucher didn't have time to stop and the cow slammed into the hood and windshield of his car, Gault said.

Other deputies found Broucher pinned in the driver's seat, barely able to move, he said. Rescue workers were able to pull him from the car and he was taken to Skyridge Medical Center.

Boucher was later transferred to Erlanger where he is still being treated, Gault said. The cow died upon impact, he said.

The accident investigation is being handled by the Tennessee Highway Patrol.
