Retired Chattanooga attorney Leroy Phillips dead at 76

Long-time Chattanooga defense attorney Leroy Phillips died early Thursday morning, according to his former law office Phillips & Caputo. He was 76 years old.

Phillips, who retired in 2005, was a fixture in Hamilton County courtrooms for more than 40 years.

With former Chattanooga Times Mark Curriden, Phillips also wrote the book "Contempt of Court," on the 1906 lynching of Ed Johnson off the Walnut Street Bridge.
