VW at end of site construction

The Volkswagen plant's pedestrian bridge is slated to be ready by next week, essentially marking the last major construction at the site.

Guenther Scherelis, general manager of communications for VW's local operation, told the Chattanooga chapter of the American Advertising Federation the bridge will be open for Tuesday's grand opening of the $1 billion plant. The $7.25 million, 850-foot span and guardhouse will serve as the main gateway to the plant.

While the bridge will mark completion of the plant, the last structure related to the VW project to go up will be a welcome center. But that will be near Interstate 75 nearby.
