Georgia jobless rate below 10%

For the first time in 22 months, Georgia's jobless rate fell into single digits in April. The Georgia Department of Labor said Thursday that unemployment in April fell one-tenth of a percent to 9.9 percent.

But in Tennessee, the Department of Labor and Workforce Development reported that April's jobless rate rose a tenth of a percent to 9.6 percent, primarily because of an influx of workers looking for jobs. Both Tennessee and Georgia continue to have higher unemployment than the U.S. as a whole, which averaged 9 percent unemployment last month.

E-books outpace printed books

NEW YORK - Amazon.com Inc. on Thursday said that, after less than four years of selling electronic books, it's now selling more of them than printed books.

The online retailer said that since April 1, it has sold 105 e-books for every 100 printed books, including printed books for which there is no electronic edition. The comparison excludes free e-books, which would tip the scales further if they were included.

Amazon said in July that e-book sales had outstripped hardcover sales. It's now selling three times as many e-books as it did a year ago.
