ATLANTA—DUI and reckless driving charges were dropped Thursday against Braves pitcher Derek Lowe, his attorney confirmed.
Lowe was driving a 2011 Porsche Panamera when pulled over April 28 by a Georgia State Patrol trooper. GSP spokesman Gordy Wright said the 37-year-old was spotted racing cars and, after stopping Lowe, the trooper said he "detected a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage." The Michigan native refused to take a breathalyzer test, he said.
''After a thorough review of all the evidence in this case including the police video that documented the entire event, both the DUI charge and the reckless driving charge were dismissed for lack of evidence," attorneys Bubba Head and Cory Yager said in a statement. Lowe pleaded no contest to making an improper lane change.
''Mr. Lowe is pleased that he has been exonerated of the allegations of DUI and reckless driving," the statement read.
