Our President's deficits aren't scary? His unemployment numbers aren't scary? His wasting almost a trillion on a totally useless stimulus that failed to keep joblessness under 8% isn't scary? His plan to put nationwide bureaucrats in charge of health insurance and make them save %500 billion on Medicare, instead of loosening up competition and letting people choose their own savings, isn't scary? His defense of big unsustainable tax-paid programs against any effort to improve their long-term prospects isn't scary? His going after the relatively quiet Mubarak and Gadhafi, while tolerating murderous menaces in Iran and North Korea, isn't scary? His price on gold, gas, and food isn't scary? His complete failure isn't scary?

When someone as handsome, charming, smart, capable, well intentioned, and personally moral as President Obama leads us into high-priced jobless bankruptcy, the problem isn't his brains but his theories and his pride. He thinks he's so smart he and his bureaucrats can babysit us? Hogwash. He needs to loosen up the deadening hand of D.C. so we can all use our brains, such as they are, since we all know our own circumstances better than the guys behind the desks do. We don't need 56 tax-paid programs for financial literacy. Remember, Jesus Christ is libertarian, and He's the standard.

Andrew...May I point out that the deficit got messed up because of one who claimed to know Christ as Savior went into a war that there was no reason to go in at the time....not finishing the job in another arena....and running up the bill in the process. And now there is an attempt being made to pay that bill off the backs of the poor, the elderly, and the sick...which is against the teaching of Scripture BTW... We need to remember that both sides are wrong at points and right at points...But at this point there is not a lot I can agree with with my right sided friends. But I will not name call...Life is too short.

Right out of the Democratic Playbook 101! A new campaign slogan should follow: HOPE noboby notices what we are doing! The Dems have their 10 commandents here's some:

  1. Never concede a victory to Republicans, even if the nation suffers greatly as a result. If Republicans win an election, claim corruption and contest the outcome. Remember, no one has the right to be in power but Democrats. If all else fails, find an activist judge to overturn any Republican policy. Thwart the will of the people and the democratic process in any way necessary to get your way. Never forget………rules and civility are for wuss’s and not meant for you. Always campaign against every Republican bill in Congress or any Republican idea, no matter what the benefit to America may be. Never agree with a Republican in public. Solidarity trumps truth and righteousness.
  2. Always remember to use the deception that has brought us to power. For example, if you author a bill to raise taxes, name it “The Tax Reduction Bill.” If we need to confiscate more freedom, call the effort “The Increased Freedom Initiative.” That’s the way to get things done. By the time the “little people” figure it out, you will have stirred enough hatred against Republicans that they will still support you.

  3. Whatever illegal and unethical thing Democrats are about to be exposed for doing, or are planning to do, instantly rush out and accuse Republicans of that exact infraction. Remember the 3 D’s. Distraction, diversion, and deception are our most powerful weapons.

  4. Anytime you find someone supporting the Constitution and traditional American values, call them “extremists” and belittle their intelligence with name-calling. These people are obstacles to our overthrow of the American system and must be marginalized.

On and on they go!

The provider-side of the equation seems to be ignored in the whole debate. The exorbitant fees for the simplest tests, procedures and the doctors time in the US is completely out of line compared to the rest of the world, regardless of the payer.

Question. How did it become normal, or for that matter even acceptable, to refer to medical patients as “consumers”? The relationship between patient and doctor used to be considered something special, almost sacred. Now politicians and supposed reformers talk about the act of receiving care as if it were no different from a commercial transaction, like buying a car — and their only complaint is that it isn’t commercial enough. Republicans are demanding that we literally stake our health, even our lives, on an already failed approach is only part of what’s wrong here. As I said earlier, there’s something terribly wrong with the whole notion of patients as “consumers” and health care as simply a financial transaction. What has gone wrong with us?

The above paraphrased from Paul Krugman.

The Democrats have gleefully hidden behind the Republicans and handed us over to corporate interests on Wall St. All the while, the "Progressive" voices have bent over in total compliance, proclaiming how much worse we would be with Republicans!

As election time approaches, slowly but surely the democratic apologists creep their way onto the pages of so called Progressive sites. I wonder what "Yes we can" will morph into for the next election, "Yes you are still gullible idiots?"

Bush! Obama! Bush! Obama!

We can soldier on, blaming one or another for our predicaments or we can seek to change them. When we are divided about 50:50 between our two major parties and one party 'wins' and another 'loses', this still means ALL OF US LOSE. Political points do not translate into progress. Tornadoes, whether from the sky or from the economy, shred Republican and Democrat lives. We are all socialists to some degree--if you call 911, you expect something to happen; if you drive on a road, you expect the bridge you cross over will not collapse; if you are very ill, you expect to find a hospital nearby. We maintain these services and entities together--that is the essence of socialism. What we fight over is the boundary between the responsibilities of the individual and the state. That soft tinkling you hear is the addition of another link on the chains that bind us and blind us from action to help one another. We can seek to drop them or we can say it is not our business. If you listen hard enough, you might just hear Marley's warning:

Mankind was my business. The common welfare was my business; charity, mercy, forbearance, and benevolence, were, all, my business. The dealings of my trade were but a drop of water in the comprehensive ocean of my business!

how sacred can a doctor and patient relationship be if a bureaucrat can step in.?.when are you morons going to realize that just because someone works for the government doesn't mean they've evolved to a higher level than everyone in the private sector?

patients are consumers...they shop around for doctors...what's wrong with that?

the best doctors with the best rep get the most patients......competition..i know that makes lefties like you pee in your pants...tough..

you lefties have a double just don't like health insurance companies..medical facilities of any kind...and doctors making percieve it to be immoral...

IPAB, check it out, they are empowered to decide who and what will be provided. Neither party seems willing to accept the fact that health care outflow significantly exceeds revenue and is a problem that is bankrupting states. Neither appears willing to tell people the truth about the impact and additional taxes that will be required.

The patriot act is just one example of people willing to give up freedom for the possibility of security. It is telling that when Bush was in office democrats opposed it and republicans supported it. Now more democrats support it and more republicans oppose it.

It is foolish to think any party or president can comprehend and manage an entity as big as the federal government. The number of departments, czars and programs are overwhelming. People and the congress keep reacting to the topic of the day. Congress keeps cranking out more legislation and seeking being elected again. There is really no managing going on.

May 30, 2011 at 7:27 a.m.
fairmon said...

Scare tactics have two bad results. They mislead people and they cause people not to recognize issues that should be frightening.

How many realize the impact, including those in congress, of our dollar no longer being the world's reserve currency. Unfortunately most don't believe that can happen just as Britain didn't think it could when their currency was the world's reserve currency.

Goods and services on the world market are priced in dollars. Any country buying those goods, including oil, must first convert their currency to dollars. The federal reserves weakening of the dollar is killing them. Defaulting on our debt will result in a move from the dollar as the world's reserve currency. That is not a scare tactic but a fact no one in D.C. appears to be willing to tell people. Why? One brilliant member of congress responded that people wouldn't understand it and we don't plan on that happening. Could it be their fear of people understanding and the reaction?

This campaign, 2012, will be the most negative in history. Neither party has a record to run on so their tactic will be to scare and try to convey how they aren't as bad as the other party. They both have one agenda, elect me so I can keep this lucrative position of power and influence.

And when taxes are raised in a failing economy it's counterproductive to recovery because consumers hold back on their spending which normally increases product demand and in turn creates jobs.

Today is memorial day. A time to honor those that served and those serving. Is it not shameful how much better we treat those in congress that encroach on our freedom and actually do harm to our country than we treat those that defended and those currently defending us?

We send those young people into combat in the most desolate and unfriendly areas in the world to be killed or kill. They endure those conditions for months and years. We celebrate with a brief welcome home. They get several weeks preparing for military action but what assistance do they get transitioning back to civilian life. What meaningful financial assistance do we provide to help them be successful? The GI bill assist with college but what if they prefer a trade or some other meaningful way to make a decent living? What if they aren't college material or have obligations or a family and can't attend?

Should we obligated to spend at least as much on their behalf as we spend for the military complex to participate in wars? Should we make sure they have access to health care in or very near their homes? Those seriously wounded and disabled should be cared for in a meaningful way for life.

In my opinion those in Washington and many others are very willing to police the world and put our youth at risk in countries that don't want or appreciate our intrusion but we come up short when it is time to support them as they deserve.

To any veteran reading these post. Thank you is not sufficient but words are not adequate ro express the appreciation you deserve. To those who did not return it is not possible to say anything to make the families loss less painful. However, we can make sure we treat those that served in a way that recognizes the sacrifice.

Correct. Indiscriminate raising of taxes is counter productive in a failing economy. Therefore, the solution is? Creation of decent jobs would help, how is that accomplished? Defining the problem is easy, identifying viable solutions without losing votes may be impossible.

Another good post Harp. Young veterans have an unemployment rate of 27%. This is criminal. We must do better.

McRand, Targeted tax cuts could help create jobs, but across the board cuts for the wealthy will not. Most of the jobs that were created by the Bush cuts were created in other low cost countries. To say that raising taxes will kill jobs is disingenuous. We need a tax policy that generates enough revenue to balance the budget and pay down debt. That is going to require an increase in taxes on at least some people and possibly all. Anyone who says that we can accomplish those fiscal goals by cutting spending alone is either lying or lacks the intellectual capacity to understand basic math.

Good posts, always. As a retired military man, I thank you for you kind words.

I retired with service-connected disabilities and am authorized treatment in any VA facility for any illness/pain/etc caused by those disabilities -- and those alone. I am not authorized treatment for unrelated injuries such as those suffered in a car accident or a fall off a ladder -- except at a greatly reduced priority having to do with space available or something. Many people do not realize that limitation and rail against the VA for not treating all and sundry for their daily aches and pains. They are simply not funded for that level of care.

My surcharge/co-pay is determined by my declared income...those who decide not to declare pay at the highest rate.

I see a VA doctor twice a year -- the VA requires that as a minimum to stay on their roles. I have other health insurance and do not use the VA by choice for my medical problems and don't clutter up their system/funding anymore than I have to -- the guys in real need take my place, in effect.

Altruistic on my part? Maybe, maybe not. When ObamaCare eliminates my private health insurance and institutes its Death Panels, I will fall back on the VA. Or maybe start hitting drug stores for my meds, who knows? To quote Dylan Thomas, I won't go quietly into that good night.

Why would you tell Roando to shut when he was suggesting on memorial day a cartoon acknowledging military personnel would be very appropriate? Does that mean you don't support and appreciate the military? I often don't agree with his post, I don't agree with most of your post or others but I don't have the right nor do I want to be so crude as to behave that way and say something like a kid would say like "oh shut up". Your mind is like a steel trap when you hear something you like or something a democrat says. Once you hear it you are like a parrot repeating it over and over. You are to democrats what Rush Limbaugh is to republicans. Both you and Limbaugh find no fault with the party you support and rave on about how great your party is and how bad the other one is. You should listen to that nut Limbaugh and get some pointers on how to be even more obnoxious. Actually both parties are full of special interest and lobbyist prostitutes willing to lie, cheat or steal to get votes. You are being conned by the democrats and others are being conned by the republicans. The end results will be similar with either party. I would like to see term limits and a 100% turn over in congress and in the administration. I would like to see a mandatory retirement age for judges, including the supreme court.

What do you think about Charlie Wrangle forgetting to pay 2 million he owed in income taxes while being on the finance committee and on the presidents advisory team? Whatever you think remember there are republicans guilty of similar financial shenanigans. The treasury secretary made a significant error on his taxes and blamed it on the software but didn't collect on their guarantee they would pay any tax where their software was at fault. The IRS should audit every member of congress for the past 7 years, we may find a gold mine in unpaid taxes. Is it any wonder they don't like the fair tax proposal?

Harp339, you may find this interesting the WSJ reports in this article that the IMF had repeatedly informed Geitner in writing that he would be responsable for Social Security and Medicare taxes.

The IRS needs to go after the 280,000 current and retired federal workers who owe more than $3.3 billion in taxes. I agree they need to audit memebers of congress why they are at it.

And they are going to hire thousands of IRS agents to enforce Obamacare (mandate section) but yet we have 280,000 current and retired employees that owe all of these back taxes.

Chet123: You are so brainwahed everything you say comes from the Democratic Play Book. I heard an interview with Mr. Cain regarding foreign policy and he had the sense to say he would have to have the presidential intel in order to make a good decision. Not just saying he would do this or that without all the intel he needs to make that decision. Just look at all the things "your boy" said and has had to back off. LOL Here is some more from your playbook:

  1. Repeat a lie often enough for our voter base to accept it as truth. Always spin a defeat as a victory for your side and your opponent’s victory as a failure, no matter how uncomfortable you may be in doing so. Remember, our voters are emotional, not logical, and they easily led to think what we tell them to think, and repeat what we tell them to repeat.

  2. Never take sides against the Democrat Party leadership. Stand with your party NO MATTER WHAT. Always discourage the voters from considering the consequences of Democrat proposed legislation, and instead appeal to their stronger emotional urges. Remember to stir hatred, envy, and the divisiveness of class warfare, and you will “own” your voter base forever. Party first, country…….never. There is NO time this will not apply.

You are sick in the head. It's called brainwashed. You would not know the truth if it kicked you in your vile behind. You are not open to finding a way to solve a problem if it's not your way. This country is in a hell of a mess. We need new ideas, new people and the American people better wake up and soon. I only ask people to read, and be open minded to both sides of the situation - use common sense which you and yours are lacking in order to make better decisions. You cannot vote for just a party, the same ole same ole. As Herman says: how's that working out you. You are brain dead. DC needs a D&C (dusting and cleaning)! They are all just playing politics to get votes and get off on power vs. doing what is best for this country and the people as a whole. Most college students who voted for O do not have a clue what they voted for until they get out in the real world and then realize what they have just done to themselves with the O vote. Bet many will not make that mistake again IF they are able to get a job and see what life is really all about.

can you say snake oil one more time? How about oligarchy? How bout rich and greedy? You have zero solutions but a lot of gripes. You can continuously complain about every other person's perspective but yet you provide no factual information, not even a link to what you may believe, but seem to criticize others whose opinions differ from yours.
I do not normally reply to theses posts but I enjoy reading others, until I see yours. You make me sick. A large portion of the time I can barely understand what you type, either due to spelling, or just to the shear nonsense that spouts from your fingertips.
If you could ever form a cognitive argument it may help you defend your position. Leaf, mtnlrl, harp, woody, rolando can all make a forceful argument without resorting to name calling. They cite information from books, papers, or even websites where they find their information and let others debate the worthiness. You do none of that.
You are the product of the every body gets a ribbon society that we now enjoy. You spout about the rich and greedy and try to put only one side into that group. There isn't one of them that won't sell you down the river for a vote. There will always be winners and losers and while you sit here and criticize everyone else you seal your fate as a loser.

I just realized chet123 probably doesn't have a hs education even if he has a diploma. He probably didn't about a two party system until he fell hook, line and sinker for the unkept campaign promises. He probably only knows who the president is and no other key people in power positions. He is frightened that the assistance to which he has become accustomed may be interrupted. Note how he refers to Palin, Huckabee and Gingrich as wealthy but never questions how Obama became so wealthy as a community organizer. He probably doesn't realize how wealthy Pelosi, Reid, Dodd, Franks and Wrangle are, those he thinks care about him. He is just a scared kid striking out at anything or anyone that disagrees with him or how he wants things to be. You could conclude he is brainwashed but that which one doesn't have can't be washed or reasoned with. He is hopeless, the only thing to do is allow him to call people names and say things like "oh shut up" and ignore him like a spoiled kid. The possibility of him influencing anyone with his rants are nil.

Soooo much time wasted arguing sides, it doesn't matter if you like the left or the right...this is exactly what they want you to do. Each president, whether they are Democrat or the same thing....What they are told by the elite of this country. Not what the masses say, not what they say in their campaign speeches, not what is constitutional. They do what they are told, puppets galore...Reagan, Obama, Clinton and George W. Same crap, different pile. BUT while you're busy arguing, who knows what rights will be taken out from under your noses. None that you will be willing to defend or fight for...only worthless banter that helps the corrupt leaders of this country. They welcome the distraction and aruging "sides" is exactly what the propaganda from FOX, MSNBC, etc is designed to encourage. My suggestion is stop watching the news and pointing fingers, it's a waste.

He is no longer part of the Liberatarian Party but he did run against Reagan as a Liberatarian and has not strayed very much. He is against abortion mostly because he delivered babies for years. I think his personal experience impacted that more than any political movement. Rand Paul is also on point, his brother as well. I am under no illusion that any Paul will be elected president, I like that they plant seeds of knowledge and encourage the masses to look into things that we take at face value more deeply. But they will never win a Presidential election, you must be chosen by those with money/special interests. I am in the "we don't truly elect our president" category. I think Obama was pre-chosen, not elected.

Your ignorance is exceeded only by your ego. It is a sign of intelligence to realize when you are not. You should be glad those you consider rich and greedy are there. Where do you think the government gets the money to support you, to pay for all those freebies you get? If you think after paying my way through college, working two and some times three jobs, paying cash for every purchase and investing in those greedy companies you bad mouth that pay me a few thousand each month to use my money that I resent supporting you, you're right. Call me rich and greedy, I still don't like it. You may want to try working, paying your own way and have some politician confiscate a good hunk of your income and see if your attitude changes. Have you figured out how Obama, Pelosi, Reid, Wrangle, Dodd, Franks became so wealthy? McCain married wealth and other republicans made theirs just like the democrats made theirs.

I detest both parties and pity you for being so gullible as to think either party gives a happy rip about you. They say all the right things to get you to think and act as you do, both parties love a parrot like you. You must be a FOX watcher to know so much about them. I prefer not watching any paid media but getting facts from an unbiased independent financial analyst that has no party loyalty and avoids any media attention.

I give up, you are incorrigible. Remember these post when the stuff hits the fan in 2012 and the country defaults on it's debt and the assistance you are so fearful of losing is reduced or no longer available. Unfortuntely changing parties probably won't help.

Another surprise is the tax on so called Cadillac insurance plans. If you buy or your employer provides an above average plan it will be taxed unless you are among the favored getting waivers from the law. Harry Reids state, Nevada and a large portion of Pelosi's supporters received wavers. The taxes planned are still not sufficient to cover the added cost. There is a reason most elements don't take affect until around 2014. It is amazing and disapointing how many of those voting for it admit not reading or fully understanding it.

What an amazing testament to the power of money in our political system when your party leadership goes from Abe Lincoln, the first Republican president, who worried about the power of capitalists over labor, who urged labor to organize, who explained why working class whites should care about the abolition of slavery, who corresponded with Karl Marx and read his work, and who passed legislation giving land to the landless to what is now a fear-mongering, war-mongering, divisive, unapologetic instrument of the bourgeoisie. Whereas Abe and the early Republicans concerned themselves with democracy and freedom for all people, his party is now only concerned with the freedom of those who employ us on THEIR terms, loan us money on THEIR terms, exploit and abuse our environment and communities on THEIR terms.
