The Huntsville Stars jumped out to an early lead and held on to pick up a 5-3 win over the Chattanooga Lookouts on Sunday night at AT&T Field.
Erik Komatsu got the Stars scoring started with an RBI double in the first inning off Lookouts starter Chris Whithrow, and Huntsville added two more runs in the top of the fifth inning and another two in the seventh.
The Lookouts finally snapped a 21-inning scoreless streak in the bottom of the seventh. Matt Walach doubled and scored on an RBI double by Jaime Pedroza, and Chattanooga added a second run on a bases-loaded ground out by third baseman Elian Herrera.
In the ninth, Pedroza led off with another double and scored on a ground out by Brad Coon, but Jesus Sanchez ended the threat to secure the win for Huntsville and pick up his first win of the season.
Cody Scarpetta pitched 6 1/3 innings to earn the win for the Stars, allowing two runs on six hits.
The Lookouts will hit the road and open a five-game series against the Birmingham Barons starting today.
Lindblom called up
Chattanooga relief pitcher Josh Lindblom was called up Sunday to join the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Lindblom, and 23-year-old right-hander, is the third player to make the jump from the Double-A Lookouts directly to the major leagues this season, joining fellow pitchers Javy Guerra and Rubby De La Rosa.
Ranked as the Dodgers’ 16th best prospect to start the season, Lindblom has recorded seven saves this season and has a 1-3 record with an ERA of 2.96.
