HOOVER, Ala. - The Birmingham Barons and pitcher Hector Santiago sent the suddenly anemic Chattanooga Lookouts to a fifth consecutive loss Monday night in Southern League baseball, 4-1.

Josh Phegley's two-run double in the first inning quickly put the Barons ahead, and three consecutive singles to center field and a wild pitch on a strikeout in the seventh doubled their advantage.

Chattanooga (24-27) got only three hits, and the first was by Ivan Ochoa between two walks in the sixth. Santiago allowed only one hit in his eight innings and struck out nine batters. Brad Coon led off the ninth with a double to left field and scored on Alfred Silverio's one-out single to left.

Game two of a five-game series in Hoover is tonight at 8:05 EDT. Joe Newby (2-1, 3.74 ERA) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Lookouts, with Nevin Griffith (2-2, 7.56) listed for the Barons.
