City Councilman Peter Murphy told council members today he felt the proposed location for a wellness center on 11th Street may not be the most beneficial for the city.

"If the rates of utilization go down at a nice facility, I will say, 'I told you so,'" Murphy said.

The council heard a presentation from the city's Personnel Department today about the proposed wellness center to be built at the site of the old Chattanooga Gas Co. site on 11th Street. The city has proposed placing a 19,000-square-foot, $3.5 million facility at the location.

Murphy said he felt the center being too close to an old industrial site that is a brownfield may deter employee from visiting it.

The council is expected to vote on a resolution for designing the building next week.
