Georgia police say dog was given LSD, struck by car

SNELLVILLE, Ga. (AP) — Authorities say a Dachshund dog was hit by a car after it was fed LSD in the Atlanta suburb of Snellville.

Police tell the Gwinnett Daily Post (http://bit.ly/sijs3c) that Oscar was given LSD in the form of a gummy worm laced with the drug.

Snellville police Capt. Harold Thomas said officers were sent to a home on Pinehurst Road Sunday night, after neighbors reported a couple of people running down the street naked.

Police said that when officers arrived, the man was wearing only socks and the woman was topless as they explained that they’d given Oscar LSD and he was missing.

Authorities say the dog was struck by a car on a nearby street. Its condition wasn’t known Tuesday.

Police said the couple was taken to Eastside Medical Center.

It's a shame that most laws don't give a hoot about animals. Those people should be punished to the same degree as if they had given that drug to a small child.

Abuse of a dog and a small child definitely do not warrant the same punishments, but I agree that this couple should be harshly punished. That is such an inhumane thing that they did to their dog!

ChattaVol06, why shouldn't it? Children, especially young children, are dependent on their parents for love, comfort, nuturing, food, drink and a safe enviroment that if their parents fail to deliver can be/is child abuse or worse. Animals, all ages of animals, are soley dependent on their owners for love, comfort, nuturing, food, drink and a safe enviroment that if not met can lead to animal cruelty or worse. If people are willing to do it to an animal what is to stop them from doing it to a child? Both rely on said people so why not punish the same?

Ok so this is terrible, but I have to disagree on the child animal comparison.

Yes, a domestic animal does usually depend on a human for it's existence as a child would.

How do the two differ? A child would quickly die if "set loose" in the wilderness, where as a savvy domesticated animal would have, say... a 50% percent chance of living a full life of eating other animals (rabbits, squirrels, rats, snakes) and rustling up a warm place to huddle through the winters.

Some adult domestic breeds would (and do) learn to enjoy the freedom of the wild.

Yes, it is terrible to mistreat animals, be they trusting and domesticated or not.

No, animals and children are not on the same plane in regards to equal requirements for survival and support.

But dayo1980, any adult who would be so reckless with an helpless animna l wouldn't do much better with a helpless, dependent child. It all starts somewhere. Most people who would abuse a helpless animals are just as likely to abuse a helpless child.

This couple will probably have children some day. If so, god help us and god help that child. Maybe some hard labor for the animal cruelty/abuse and drug charges could help to knock some sense into these two clowns. Oh, and they should be required to clean dog kennels for several years.

I think that abuse to animanls and children should both come with stiffer penulties then they currently have! If you abuse an animal you should lose 5 fingers, abuse a child you should be beating in front of the town court house

I completely agree centair, by the quick description of these two, I can surmise that they probably have bigger dysfunctions in their lives than the ones listed in this story.

The combining of genes to produce children between this pair would be a bad idea for a multitude of obvious reasons.

Anyway you say/read this....it is still awful! This pair should be sentenced to the harshest punishment possible! Maybe when they sober up they will realize what a terrible thing they did!

But I do agree...the next step up from an animal is a child...
