Passat helps push VW sales

Volkswagen of America on Tuesday reported that sales climbed 39.6 percent in October over a year ago, with deliveries of the Chattanooga-made Passat to dealers surpassing 5,000 in the month.

VW officials said the month was the German automaker's best October in the United States in 10 years.

Year to date, VW has posted a sales hike of 23.8 percent.

"As the all-new Passat and Beetle start to enter the marketplace, demand for Volkswagen vehicles has already exceeded last year's annual volume in the first 10 months of the year," said Jonathan Browning, VW of America's chief executive.
