Law enforcement officials took a gunman into custody this morning after he had attempted to break into a Hixson Pike pharmacy.

No details were given on the gunman.

Hamilton County Sheriff's Office deputies had responded shortly after 7 a.m. to an attempted burglary where a gunman had fired into some glass at a pharmacy in the 8500 block of Hixson Pike.

The gunman never made it inside the pharmacy and escaped on foot with deputies and a police dog in pursuit.

McConnell Elementary and Loftis Middle schools were put on shutdown for a time during the incident, officials said.
