The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga football team picked up a commitment for the 2012 signing class Tuesday night when Calhoun High School linebacker Alex Kirby committed to the Mocs.

A member of the Times Free Press' preseason Dynamite Dozen, the 6-foot, 216-pound Kirby is UTC's first commitment for the upcoming class.

"Alex is one of the best linebackers, if not the best, we've had since we've been here," said Calhoun coach Hal Lamb, who added that the Mocs "were getting a steal."

The Mocs have been off since beating Samford last Saturday and will return to practice this afternoon.
