A man died today after a full-sized pickup truck hit the Toyota sedan carrying him and his wife at about 1 p.m. at 911 Mountain Creek Road in Chattanooga.
Police said Caitlin Davis, 23, crossed the center line in her Ford F-250 pickup and hit the oncoming Toyota. Henry Brown, 84, and his wife, Mary, were trapped inside their car until rescuers used the Jaws of Life to free them.
The Browns and Davis were taken to the hospital, where Henry Brown later died.
Davis and Mary Brown received non-life threatening injuries, police spokeswoman Sgt. Jerri Weary said.
Weary said investigators are still trying to determine why Davis crossed the center line and that charges are possible.

That's how they drive full-size Pickups, Suburbans, Expeditions, et al here in Tennessee...on your side of the road, especially on curves...going way too fast for the road...but simply must cut the corner. They do it all the time. It is routine. NOT cutting the corner would mean slowing down to the speed limit and actually turning the steering wheel.
And I thought the drivers in Ohio, NYC, Tokyo, Turkey, and Los Angeles were bad...these people could give them lessons in rotten driving habits.
God be with the Brown family on this terrible day.
@Rolando Agree, but this was on a straight stretch of Mountain Creek. Can't just rack this up to aggressive driving.
Texting while driving would be my first guess, I see a lot of it.

Morning news said this man was honored at his church earlier in the day for his military service. Dying young is a tragedy, but what about the people who've put up with so many years of what life throws at you? Who've been through injuries and sickness, grief and despair. Who've remained loyal and faithful for all those decades. It seems the tragedy only grows.

POLICE MAY WANT TO LOOK TO SEE IF THIS YOUNG LADY WAS TEXTING OR TALKING ON THE CELL PHONE......IT SHOULD BE A LAW AGAINST YOUNG FEMALE DRIVING LARGE SUV'S OR TRUCKS.....MOST OF THEM DISREGARD OTHER DRIVERS ON THE ROAD.....BUT POLICE ARE TOO BUSY HIDING CAMERA TO GET SPEEDING TICKETS FROM MOTORIST DURING 35 IN 30MPH ZONE....IGNORING MOTORIST CELL PHONE USAGES WHILE DRIVING..POLICE NEED TO START WRITING TICKETS....MAYBE THEY AFRAID OF CELL PHONE COMPANY OR TELE-COMMUNICATION STOCKS GOING DOWN....FOR THE BROWNS WHAT MAY HAVE STARTED OUT AS JUST A SUNDAY AFTER NOON DRIVE ..BECAUSE OF FOLLY BY THE YOUNG LADY...END UP COSTING THE BROWNS THE LIFE OF THEIR LOVE ONE.

First and foremost, my thoughts and prayers do go out to the family in this tragedy. Period. However, the comment above "...It should be a law against young female driving large SUVs or trucks...most of them disregard other drivers on the road" This may indeed apply to some, but please don't lump all females in this category.

Seriously. This is too sad for words. But I see bad driving every day from men and women alike. It's just worse when it's a vehicle that is so big and more difficult to manuver. These vehicles are weapons on these roads, especially the 2-lane roads where you can't escape them. So sad for the Brown Family.

what a tragedy. BTW I know the family of the girl driving and she didnt have a cell phone with her and was tested for a and d at the scene so texting or a and d were not a part. What a horrible accident.

Texting/dialing is my second guess. In any case, she had no business doing whatever she was doing while driving. She killed someone and destroyed at least one other person's life. Prosecution is definitely in order -- but, knowing Tennessee, she will probably be hand-slapped instead of B-slapped.
Dennis -- agreed. Since the article didn't specify which stretch -- and some of it is durn narrow and/or motorcycle-ideal -- that's why I said "especially on curves".

Yeah, there are a bunch, jesse...putting on makeup, reading a book, getting something off the floorboards/out of the console, etc.
Her failure to primarily pay attention to her driving resulted the death of one person and a destroyed life for another.
But I will be very surprised if she doesn't walk.

To all posters who push against my above comment....It seem like i struck a nerve with you.....Guess what???? i dont give a d@#!!*....We have a family that have lost their father and husband by an irresponsible bone headed young lady and instead of working to correct this from happening to someone else...even you...a few females take offense..i personlly was hit from behind by a female motorist texting her boy friend while driving...you see this behavior all the time.....there should be laws to fine anyone texting or talking on cell phone while driving....i dont care what they do with their cell phones....but when it endanger my life or others the so-call law enforcement should be aggressive....

It really makes no diffrence man women. the fact is someone died and that is not going to change. yes it was a huge truck and yes it was a women driving cant say that was the reason for the wreck.i would like to know what was. It would be nice .
I know iam supposed to forgive her and i have really tried. I know the browns and my heart feels like it will never recover.When i think that i was just speaking to leo and now he is gone.when i think that i will never see him again or be able to talk with him it just makes me so hurt and dam angry.How can someone be so unaware of what they are doing to just drive stright into another car.Ive wondered if she ment to do it.Ive read cases where people become so depressed that they try to kill themselfs by hitting another car head on.GOD i really hope it wasnt something like that.She didnt even get hurt.I dont care why all i know is she needs to pay and i lost a best friend and she almost killed his wife.She is still in the hospital unable to speak and she just took her first few steps.It will be months before she gets out .that girl wasnt hurt so where is the justice?If i felt like she was sorry or even felt bad about what she has done it might help.I hope GOD forgives me for the way i have felt.
