The Constitution, protests and public safety

In the days before our beloved United States of America was born, British authorities sought to prevent the assembly of the people in the American colonies as they protested against the British Crown.

So after American independence finally was won during the Revolutionary War, the framers of our Constitution wisely guaranteed "the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances ... ."

Of course, "peaceably" is a key word there. The right of assembly does not protect mobs or those who gather in violation of reasonable time, place and manner restrictions.

That principle was reaffirmed on Tuesday when a judge ruled that the First Amendment does not provide unlimited protection to the "Occupy Wall Street" protesters who had taken over a privately owned park in Manhattan, pitching tents there and camping out for weeks on end -- and making it hard for others to enjoy the normal use of the park. Police cleared the camp of protesters and removed their tents and other equipment after the site, Zuccotti Park, became hazardous and unsanitary.

The demonstrators may return to the park or go to other parks to spread their anti-capitalist message, but they will not be permitted to set up a tent city again.

So their right "peaceably to assemble" and to state their views will be upheld.

But they will not be permitted to ignore sensible safety and sanitation regulations.

That is as it should be.

The lieberal mind is a lawless mind, an immoral mind, without order. When they gather together this lieberal mind is emboldened to no longer hide what is in his mind.

And the conservative mind is roughly akin to a condom - rarely used, singular in purpose and designed to give one a false sense of security while being screwed.

Why does the author hate America and her freedoms so much? Are they that much of a threat to him? Isn't that why Al Qaeda hates us so much? Sure is food for thought.

I’ve learned of a new scientific study indicating conservatives are borderline sociopaths:A new study finds that conservative moral judgements on several issues have a correlation with “dark and anti-social personality traits.” The study, from the University of Tampa’s Dr. Marcus Arvan, PhD in the journal Neuroethics found Machiavellianism (deception), narcissism (overinflated sense of self-worth), and psychopathy (absence of guilt or remorse) in conservative value judgements. Explains a lot.

Thanks for the heads up on that ace, but did we really need a study to tell us that?

Well said, librul. Funny but sadly true. And, Ace, I don't doubt the findings of that study one bit.

Sometimes I wonder if people like this person who calls her/himself "conservative" can really exist. How can there even BE anyone with such a small, twisted, hateful mind as that? But then I know people like that DO exist, in the likes of Glenn Beck, Sean Hannity, Rush Limbaugh, Bill O'Reilly, Ann Coulter, etc., whom he no doubt idolizes and sucks from their teat to get his venomous bile. The extreme right wing is just a feeding frenzy and a constant regurgitation of lunacy and hate.

Lieberals, socialists and atheists hate the truth. Since it is impossible to refute the truth they resort to personal attacks, outright lies, or change the subject. When they do these things they unknowingly expose their character. They can't do otherwise because that is their character. You shall know them by their fruits. I love to smoke them out.

Con-man, you're not smoking anybody out, unless it's in the confines of your wee small mind. The only smoking goin' on is the smoke your blowin' out your ass.

How many of you will admit to being an atheist?

I will play along and say I am. Now what is the point?

Exactly, XGS. What's the friggin' point? It's just one of the non-issues that con-man likes to make major, divisive issues out of. I am agnostic and I couldn't care less what anyone else believes as long as they don't wear their religion or beliefs on their sleeve and try to shove it down the throats of everyone else. I long ago rejected the christian concept of a "father" God and a personal "savior" as being juvenile, primitive and totally nonsensical. I welcome going to their equally juvenile and primitive concept of hell if it will mean never again having to deal with self-righteous and annoying christians, leastwise the proselytizing ones. Let them have their heaven, just as long as they are THERE...far, far away in their never-never land.

Con, calling people names and dodging answers is not the same thing as knowing what you are talking about.

Anarchy or bust right? Acerigger, that study is pure crap put together by a social justice/redistribution fanboi. His ideals are compeltely unamerican and smack of the forced volunteerism Obama suggested early in his presidency. Calling the study "scientific" is only accurate if science follows the same rules as reality shows and global warming research. Anything goes as long as they get the desired result.
