Saturday was a good day for Tigers in area college basketball games.

Chattanooga State's teams completed their second TCCAA doubleheader sweep in as many days, the men wiping out a 22-point first-half deficit against Columbia State, and the Sewanee men went to 3-0 for the first time in a decade with an 88-42 win over Free Will Baptist Bible in the Tigers' Lon Varnell Classic.

But making the biggest splash nationally was Sewanee's female Tigers, who set NCAA Division III records with 24 3-point goals (in 56 tries) and a combined 31 with Judson's seven in Sewanee's 125-58 win in the Birmingham-Southern Classic. The Tigers also broke the program record for points in a game.

Logan Miller scored 21 points on 7-of-11 3-point shooting, and Heather Baier was 4-for-7 from long range in adding 20 points. Kayla Sewell had eight rebounds and five blocked shots with 10 points.

Valentino Bryant had 23 points and eight rebounds and Anvil Nelson added 15 points and nine rebounds for the Sewanee guys. Lewis Affronti scored 25 points and Tyler Brown had 17 points and nine rebounds in Sewanee's 85-54 win Friday against Boyce, and Bryant had six assists.

Chattanooga State's Lady Tigers were ranked No. 8 in NJCAA Division I in the preseason but lost their opening TCCAA games last weekend in West Tennessee. Saturday they got to 2-2 in the league and 4-2 overall as April Woodard scored 29 points and Hiydaayah Williams added 15 points and matched Stevonna Scott's 10 rebounds. Kelva Atkins scored 39 for Columbia State.

The Chattanooga State guys (5-1, 3-1) made up all but two points of their huge deficit by halftime but had to go to the wire to edge the Chargers, who got 22 points from Maseco Harmon and 19 from Devonta James. Tre Webb had 14 points and 12 rebounds, and his tip at the buzzer won the game. Andrew Houts had a game-high 23 points with three 3s.

Jackson State swept Cleveland State in Cleveland, 66-53 in the women's game and 77-73 in the men's. Shayna Garrett's 17 points and 11 rebounds led the Lady Generals, while Brittany Ramsey and Cash Champion scored 16 and 15 in defeat for the Lady Cougars.

Barry Griffin had 39 points and 11 rebounds for the Cougars (5-2, 2-2), who also got 10 points from Nick Ross, but the Generals (6-1, 3-1) countered that with 28 points from Johnny Williams.

Also in Cleveland, Lee University swept an SSAC doubleheader for the second time in two days, the 6-0 Lady Flames beating Faulkner 90-76 behind 29 points from Angela Spann and 15 and 13 points and five and six assists from Kally Eldridge and Hollie German and the Flames winning 68-52 as Ryan Westbrooks scored 30 points on 10-of-15 shooting, 5-of-9 from 3-point range. Tyrone Caldwell added 10 points and four assists.

The Bryan women also remained undefeated, pushing their record to 7-0 with a 69-59 home win over Southeastern University in which Anna Thomas and Morgan Burnette scored 22 and 17 points, the latter with eight rebounds. Mariah Britton had five assists and matched Thomas' three steals.

The Bryan men lost for the second time this season to Tennessee Temple, but this time at Temple it was 63-62 as the Crusaders got 15 points and eight rebounds from Germeil Daniels and 13 and 11 points from Drew Ferrell and Weedlens Beauvil. Corey Sanders had five assists for Temple (4-4). Rob Riley and Dion Fair scored 18 and 17 points for Bryan.

Covenant's teams both won, the men 82-60 over Boyce in Sewanee's tournament as Callum Sears scored 23 points on 6-of-9 3-point success and Jon DeVries added 15. The Lady Scots topped Spelman at home with Christine Core scoring 25 ponts, Jessie Blankenship adding 21 and Ruth Gibson contributing 11 points and seven rebounds.

Georgia Northwestern had only eight players for its men's game, the absent ones including Fernando Lemus Jr. with a hyperextended knee, and lost 91-51 in Rossville to Caldwell College. Aaron Bennett scored 33 points for the North Carolina school. Andrew Miller led the Bobcats (2-4) with 15 points, and Andre Towns had nine rebounds.
