A 35-year-old man is listed in critical condition after he was shot following a traffic collision just after midnight this morning, according to Chattanooga Police Department.
Officers found Jerry Martin in his vehicle at 4400 Jersey Pike after he sustained a gunshot wound to his facial and neck area, said police spokeswoman Sgt. Jerri Weary.
Martin reportedly struck a truck operated by 43-year-old Kevin L. Chitty and was attempting to leave the scene when Chitty fired a .40-caliber handgun at him. The report did not state if the gun was licensed to Chitty.
Chitty told police he thought Martin had pointed a gun at him.
Chitty faces charges of attempted second-degree murder and aggravated assault, weary said.
Local court records show Chitty had no prior violent criminal history. As of this morning, he was being held at Hamilton County Jail without bond.
His next court date is set for Nov. 30 before General Sessions Court Judge Clarence Shattuck.

Yeah, that's what Lee Harvey Oswald said.
Chitty-Bang.
I have family who live near Jersey Pike. That's unsettling.
He looks insane anyways. Always heard that people who's eyebrows nearly touch in the center of their heads were mentally unstable anyways.
LOL! PinkSalmon...that's the funniest thing I've heard in a long time...but you may be right...hmmmm.
I think if some of you go back and reread you will see that Kevin has "no prior" criminal record. So he is hardly insane. I've heard the guy he shot has a sheet as long as the road he was shot on. They need to be investigating why he was running after running into this otherwise law abiding citizen's car. Hang in there Kevin. Hopefully things will work out for you.
Chitty obviously felt himself or family in danger. Family man, with family, on a family holiday, who felt danger by a career criminal after midnight...
