Shots fired during robbery

Shots were fired during a robbery Friday evening at Wedgewood Cleaners at 3399 Wilcox Blvd., according to Chattanooga police.

The owner told police that two juveniles who looked to be as young as 14 came into the business at 5:30 p.m. and asked a few questions then left, said police spokeswoman Sgt. Jerri Weary. They returned 20 minutes later, Weary said, and one of them fired a gun into the ceiling before telling one of the employees to give over the money in the cash register. After they got the money, both fled the business going toward the Wilcox Tunnel, Weary said.

None of the employees was injured in the robbery, Weary said. Police are looking for two young black males believed to be between 14 and 17 years old, dressed in black hooded sweatshirts and black pants. Pit bull bites 4-year-old

A 4-year-old boy was bitten around the neck Friday evening by a neighbor's pit bull while playing in his yard in the Silverdale area, Chattanooga police said.

The attack happened around 5:20 p.m. as the boy and his father were in front of their residence at 7354 Old Cleveland Pike. The dog reportedly broke loose from its owner's backyard, ran up the street and attacked the child, police spokeswoman Sgt. Jerri Weary said.

The boy's father, Chris Binshaw, pulled a knife and stabbed the dog to get it off his son. The dog's owner, Eric Robinson, then grabbed the dog and put it back in its cage.

The child suffered non-life threatening injuries but his condition was unknown. Charges are pending further investigation, Weary said.
