An explosion and fire at a Hixson home on Saturday was caused by a meth lab, authorities said.

The resident of 8532 Dallas Oaks Drive, Steven Christopher Brannan, was charged with initiating manufacture of methamphetamine, felony possession of methamphetamine for resale and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to Hamilton County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Janice Atkinson. She said Brannan was given a bond of $75,000 and faces a court date Dec. 13.

Dallas Bay volunteer firefighters were called to the home shortly after 7 p.m. Friday and brought the small fire under control.

Deputies were called and found what appeared to be evidence of a meth lab explosion in the garage, Atkinson said.

There were no injuries in the explosion and fire and damage to the home appeared to be minor, authorities said.
