Hamilton County schools to be on a two-hour delay in opening Tuesday

Hamilton County schools will close an hour early today and after-school activities will be canceled because of heavy flooding, according to the Hamilton County Emergency Management Services.

On Tuesday there will be a two-hour delay in the opening of schools, a statement from the Hamilton County Department of Education said.

Child care will be closed this afternoon and there will be no child care on Tuesday morning, the statement said.

The latest forecast from the National Weather Forecast states:

Heavy rain is anticipated across parts of the southern Appalachians today, with flash flooding possible. Flash Flood Watches, Flood Warnings, and Flood Watches are in effect across parts of Georgia, Tennessee, Kentucky, and Indiana. Meanwhile, wet snow is possible across portions of the Tennessee River Valley tonight. Winter Weather Advisories and Winter Storm Watches are in effect across parts of Arkansas, Mississippi, and Tennessee. Temperatures today are expected to be 10 to 20 degrees above normal across portions of the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast.
