The Urban League of Greater Chattanooga has asked Chattanooga for money once reserved for the Tennessee Multicultural Chamber of Commerce.
Councilwoman Carol Berz, chairwoman of the City Council’s Budget and Finance Committee, said today the Urban League sent a letter to the council, asking for the $75,000 allocation.
The money is supposed to help spur minority business growth.
The Chattanooga Area Chamber of Commerce also is expected to ask the council for the money.
Hamilton County recently allocated the $75,000 it used to give to the Multicultural Chamber to the Chattanooga Area Chamber of Commerce.
The city and county dropped their funding this year for the Tennessee Multicultural Chamber of Commerce after a Times Free Press investigation found discrepancies within the chamber’s budget documents to both governments.
The Multicultural Chamber is now under investigation by the FBI and U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
