Public hearing on General Mail Facility closure

Friday, January 1, 1904

The U.S. Postal Service will hold a town hall meeting tonight to discuss the potential elimination of 110 local jobs at the Shallowford Road processing center.

Shuttering the General Mail Facility would save the service an estimated $1.7 million, according to a recent study of distribution centers across the nation. The Postal Service plans to close almost 300 of the 487 centers by 2013.

Tonight's hearing on the Chattanooga mail center is scheduled from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Chattanooga School for the Arts and Sciences on 865 E. Third St.
